This will be my first autoloader. Right now as far as handguns I have a SW 686+ w/ 6 inch barrel. I bought it bc I like the feel of a heavy steel gun. Recently I have been renting glocks at the range and I just cant get past the fact that I feel like im holding a plastic gun. At one point when I racked the slide back I felt the slide sort of separate from the trigger frame and I felt like I was gunna pull the thing off.

So now im looking for a relatively inexpensive, reliable steel gun. It will be 9mm because my wallet is getting sore from shooting .38 spec/.357 mag at the range. Any recommendations?

cz-75b- ya thats one of the ones I have been looking at. Is it DA first shot/ SA followup shots like say a sig? How is the trigger?

How is the trigger?

The triggers are variable. Dry fire any that interest you because part to part consistency in the same models is not a CZ manufacturing strength. One can be great and the next "meh" or anything in between.

CZ-75b......Still good deals to be found on an exceptional 9mm!......or used High Power if you don't mind SA only.

I guess I should clarify reasonably priced for me is <600. Perhaps willing to pay a little more with taxes and california fees but anything over 650-700 total would be a real stretch. Handguns are becoming a new addiction for me though so that number is obviously subject to revision :)

thanks for the replies

SIG P226?
Stoeger/Beretta cougar 8000

C'mon, guys; Every one of those has an alloy frame. OP said steel.

Best bet is gonna be a CZ-75 (or clone; Witness, Baby Eagle, AR-24) or a S&W, like the 5906. Any of these can be had for under $600. There are also the Star and Llama pistols, but the steel in Spanish pistols tends to be soft.

So now im looking for a relatively inexpensive, reliable steel gun.

5906. Seriously, the police trade-ins are an absolute steal at the prices they are going for (~300-325). Very accurate, very reliable, and will outlive your great grandchildren.
