Just picked up a rebarreled Savage 99 takedown 30-30 from 1920.
I'm looking for a gunsmith that is familiar with these located in
southern California. With my limited web searching it looks like
Bain & Davis is at the top of my list at this point.

This was rebarreled and they did a poor job as headspace is off
(closes on a field guage). If I have to sent this out for fixing I
thought I'd look into getting a couple extra barrels for it based
on the 30-30 I would like to get a 25-35 and 38-55 if possible.
I expect the 38-55 will end up being a rebore and could use a
wore out 30-30 or 303 barrel.

The buttstock and fore-end are damaged and I will rebuild this rifle
with new wood. Does anyone have exprience with Gunstocks, Inc
in Iowa?

Can you recommend a source for parts, barrels, stocks and or a good
gunsmith?

Thanks,
Jay

99 Savage mag

the spool feed system for a 99 Sav, limits you to a case shape/demension of what the spool was made for.

So a 99 built for 30-30 would need to stay with bottle neck cartridges that are realy close, a 32 WinSp(winchester special) a 22 zipper, 25/30-30, 243/30-30 etc..................

Striaght wall cases like the 25-35, 32-40 and 38-55, may or may not have problems feeding from a mag spool built for the 30-30, check the way they feed before going for a barrel!

Munrich Gunparts,

Bob's guns

Brownells

And probably more, these I am fimiliar with
