...already loaded in factory ammunition. Somebody had a link to Graf's and it reminded me of something. I have a few rounds of WWII/other era surplus .45ACP and a couple of them have what looks like a jacketed wadcutter in them. Methinks this would be a great setup, all the crushing power of a wadcutter but with less barrel leading. I don't know if it's actually a plating but it looks like a jacket that is formed to a lead bullet.

Is anything like this currently available?

Here come the "Reason #492 why everyone should reload" posts! :D

Aha! That is the bullet. I bet those couple rounds I have were reloaded, as they have the proper headstamp. One does have the bullet set back too far in the case too, which is telling. Glad I got them for free. The others are all round nose. I wondered if the wadcutters would have feeding issues given the square shouldered profile...

Thanks!

Well, I shouldn't have said they won't feed in 1911's.

What I should probably have said is they may not feed in some GI issue 1911's that haven't had a ramp & throat job done to feed JHP ammo.

They are a joy to shoot and will give you more accuracy then any other .45 ACP load. Well worth trying a box sometime, even if you do have to mess with a few feed problems.

But with a modern gun set up to feed most any type of JHP, they should work fine.

There is the Hornady 200gr. JSWC. I used to shoot a lot of them back in the day. As well there are an abundance of different plated 200gr. SWCs.

All of my .45 shooting these days is for bullseye practice and competition. I shoot nothing but hardcast 200gr. LSWCs, mostly Penn.

I shoot the Hornady 200 grain JSWC. Top notch accuracy, and I think they would hit a little harder than ball if you get the velocity up.

I softball them ( about 825 fps), but they function fine in my USP.

I just pulled out one of the 100 count, Hornady bullet boxes - bought 500 of?
200 Gr. .451 cal. FMJ-CT Encapsulated.

In profile it looks somewhat like a Jacketed SWC however from it's
flat point tip it has a cruved slope to the shank of the bullet.

The Leadhead hardcast true SWC I also have in stock has the
flat point tip, then a contstant slope until it stops where it has a
ledge perpendicular to the bore axis, then the shank continues
rearward.

Although the FMJ-CT ( Cone Truncated?) does not have the
pronounced ledge of a classic Keith type SWC - he called this the
cutting edge, the bullet would provide much more tissue disruption
than a RN-FMJ. imho.

I also have 500 Hornady JHP XTP and will have all the above loaded
up by a manufacturer to my velocity spec. close to 1,000 FPS in
starline cases 1,000 of .45 ACP and 1,000 of .45 Auto Rim.

THe 200 gr. FMJ-CT ran about 14.7 cents a bullet and the XTPs were
16+ cents a bullet on sale last october. I found a small maker of ammo
last spring at the Lewiston ID gun show. Just been getting my
round tu it's together. I've been thinking of a different bullet - something
jacketed instead of the Leadhead 200 gr. - I have some at
1,025 fps and they lead my 625 barrel up as well as the
1911, although they feed fine as well as being accurate
