I frequent a few other forums. One forum has been growing in content & membership over the last few years. Recently, I've noticed a group of the members posting info that is absolutely against the law and newbie members taking it as lawful. I've tried to explain the law and that erroneous nature of some of the info but I've been told I'm wrong, got one email to (in not so PC a manner) just mind my own business and even got one threat.
I know I could simply not frequent that forum (which I've done) but I'd hate to think of all those members getting the wrong info and potentially getting in real legal trouble. I know it's the internet & to really be careful w/ the info you find, but still, I feel like I have to do something. After all, we're all here w/ the same interest & passion
My question -- what should I do?

Is the one email and the one threat enough to make you stop doing what you feel strongly about? Did you get any positive responses at all?

How certain are you that your information is correct?

Which Forum are you talking about?

There is enough annonimity that I don't care about the threats -- plus most threats are idiot based so they don't mean much. I have shown threads to a few people that know this subject better than I do and all say they are wrong.

I would make it known to the administrators and moderators of the board of what is happening, and let them take the appropriate action. They need to monitor the message board and remove posts that are misleading, or against the law. And perhaps take action(banning) those who are spreading misinformation.

If it continues, find another forum to frequent. You've done the best job you can in cleaning it up.

Just my opinion.

If the illegal stuff has to do with federal law and BATFE stuff, the BATFE regs are stickied at the top of the Legal Forum page. You might post that URL at your problem-website, and get a moderator to sticky it as we've done here. That should settle the arguments.

If a moderator is unwilling to do that, my suggestion would be to go away from that website. I fully agree with, "You can't fix stupid."

"...what should I do?..." Like joe817 says, make it known to the administrators, but stop worrying about it. Despite your very commendable desire to help, it's not your problem. Mind you, I'd continue to to point out illegalities with legitimate citations of the law.
The Internet is jam packed full of assorted BS and there's very little you can do about it.

Send a note off to Obama he'l send a couple hundred thou to buy the forum for his black panther chums. There's some real experience on this site and if you read it much. If you don't see some of the chums regestered or talking and you think there Nuts they probably are. Most people but not all I respect are on this site. :coo
