i think my next purchase will be a Single-action pistol in .40 s&w. I don't want a full size (5" 1911)...

what are some options and recommendations? So far I'm considering Browning Hi Power and STI's offerings. Looking to spend $1000 or less if possible..

looking for something along the size of the BHP or a commander size 1911...

any recommendations appreciated.

Also, before you tell me that .45 is better and why don't i get that, I already know that! LOL

You can get a CZ75B SA in .40S&W.
It does not have a decocker and has a manual safety and is only single-action.

And the Springfield Armory XD40 is single-action as well.

CZ75B like the other guy said. Don't forget the SIG/Sauer 229. There's also the 226 but that would be getting pretty big (not any bigger than a BHP though)

You already know the BHP, so maybe a CZ75 SA is in order.

There are other cz clone meet your requirement too.

ps: XD is a striker fire pistol, not single action.

Actually even though the XD is striker fired it is a true single action pistol. When you rack the slide the striker is fully cocked unlike some other striker fired pistols. Mark

+1...

In a few months the CZ-75 P-07 will be available in .40. It is single action cocked and locked capable.

Exactly.

A pistol need not have a hammer in order to be single-action.

H&K USP .40 (or USP Compact)

Can either be carried DA with the safety off/on, or SA cocked & locked.

H&Ks are the best of the best when it comes to the polymer combat pistol market. Mine have never missed a beat. Here's my stainless USP.40c.

The HK USP was made for the .40 round. My full size has never missed a beat and is easy to shoot. I carry it cocked and locked.

The BHP .40 is a nice one. I don't like it as much as the 9mm BHP, but it is my favorite .40.

Exactly.

A pistol need not have a hammer in order to be single-action.

And how about the ability of cocked n carry? Manual decocked? or even the ability to decock?

It take more than the ability to fully cocked a firing pin to be Single Action. When someone ask for a Single Action pistol recommendation, give him a SA pistol. Don't sneak in a striker pistol just because you are a fan for it.

There are many SA pistol out there (not many in 40 though).
Beside the CZ I mentioned, how about

Beretta Steel I

Pardini GT

Tanfoglio Witness Elite

ps: Though, they are harder to find and the price will be an issue. Good luck.

How about the Springfield EMP in 40S&W. Mine cost right at $1000 and is a true 1911 style SA. It is also very accurate.
