I was hoping maybe you guys could help me out.

I want to buy a 1911 chambered for .40SW. It seems though that most are chambered for .45ACP and a few for 9mm.

I'm looking for high a quality (STI, Kimber, Wilson Combat, etc.) 1911 full-size chambered in .40SW. Looking through the Midway catalog, I saw that STI and Kimber both sell 1911 mags for .40SW which suggests they either currently make what I'm looking for or have made it in the past. However, on their sites I can't find what guns these would go with.

I already know I'll be getting a Springfield EMP for a small 1911 in .40, but now I'm looking to get one in full-size.

Your help is appreciated.

Rock River Arms
Les bear
Kimber
Nowlin Arms
Nighthawk Customs
STI
Springfield
Wilson Combat
Para-Ordnance

There are others but these are the ones that I know of right now.

sorry - I didn't mean brands. I meant models. There can't be that many.

I believe that all the manufactures that jenrob listed offer a couple models of 1911s in .40sw. With the new USPSA single stack division they're more popular than you might think. You also have a number of custom and semi-custom options if you're willing to spend more.

I have a STI Trojan in 9mm. It'd be a excellent model to consider in .40sw.

Look on each site. I have listed the makers that I can think of cause your statement that there can't be that many. Well out of just those I bet there are over 30 different models that can be had in 40S&W

if you are Ok with what's called LDA (light -double action) trigger then Para ordinance 16-40 or Para ordinance Tac Fourty (shorter barrel)

Also fusionfirearms.com has kits for a very good price last I checked (and they can complete the assembly and finish for you) for .40, 10mm, .38 super

I don't believe that Kimber is making .40s any more.
Although I have an old, Kimber, Pro-Carry, and a Springfiels "loaded" in .40, I'm thinking of getting another in either an STI Trojan, or a Les Baer.
I truly think the Baer would be the more accurate, and better gun, of the two, but, it's almost twice the $$

CHEESE:

I have a Series 80 Colt Gov't model in 40 Caliber. It has the stainless frame and blue slide. I have fired 500 to 600 or so rounds in it. It works great now.

I was having some reliability problems with it when I first bought it new.

I sent the gun back to colt and they polished the feed ramp and adjusted the extractor or ejector and returned it to me. Still was having the same problem.

But now have solved the problem. I repaced the stock double recoil springs (19lb) and the wimpy short guide rod with a standard full length Wilson Combat rod and Single Wolf Recoil spring. I use a 20lb or, at times a 18 1/2 lb spring.

I had trouble keeping the front sight pinned so
I sent the slide back to Colt and had them dovetail it and install a Novak rear and a Heinie front sight.

All of this was done by colt and I could have not ask for any better service.

I'm now very happy with the gun.
