I have an old Connecticut State Police S&W Model 66. This is a blued stainless steel revolver. S&W blued these guns as special order. The gun is about 90 to 95 percent. I am having trouble finding information to set a value on this revolver. Anybody info on what this gun is worth? Thanks.

I would say no more or less really than your average 66 in similer condition. Perhaps slightly less actually due to the blueing. I couldn't really value it without testing the action, seeing the wear, etc. If you're asking if it's worth more for being some kind of 'special edition' or something, then sorry to tell you... but, no I very much doubt it. I would say it is what it is, a post-prod. blued 66. Depending on condition, anywhere from $250 to $400.

Id go with Hex on this too. I hate to tell you but "old cop guns" arent worht any more then an old 66 you or anyone else bought originally unless an old cop who had one issued to him wants it for historical purposes. But, the 66 is a nice gun...I'd keep it and shoot the crap out of it.

I haven't seen a decent 90% or better 66 selling for under $350 at a gun show or shop for several years now. Most are in the $400. Look on Gunbroker.com and you'll see them selling well above the $400 mark at bid. To the right person the bluing is a plus, S&W put blueing on a limited number of Stainless revolvers

There may be a chemical that will remove the blue. You might call Smith & Wesson and ask them what would take it off. Being stainless, it probably can just be soaked in something, sans grips of course. Once off, the now silver gun will probably bring a few more $$$.

If you go this route, please let us know what Smith says about removing this bluing. I'd like to know just for reference.

Cheers!

Those blued 66's that went to the Connecticut State Police, bring a 20% premium over the standard 66, according to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, and some threads on the S&W forum. 750 - 800 were made. It should say "CSP" with a 3 digit number below the cylinder, on the frame. Some were sold as surplus with the blue polished off, which makes the remainder with a nice blue....more rare. Probably more expensive too. I would not polish off the blue. I would go ask over on the S&W forum, what it's worth to them. Good luck!
