Hi guys, I was given 45 cans in new clean/dry condition. I shoot CAS using 38/357, looking to use this shotgun powder in that cal and in target load 12ga. I can not find any older loads information. Looking for a burn rate of this, from what I have heard/read, they could be about the same as Unique. If I am way off base please tell me. Any help would be great, thanks!

I could be wrong, but I think #162 is pretty close to Bullseye or Red Dot.
#164 is slower and is probably between Unique & Herco.

But thats just a WAG.

Start low, go slow working up.

Someone gave me a couple pounds of Herter's 164 and I can find no data, but it acts close enough to Unique.

I have lots of pistol powders that I have never tried. Never opened.

But the H164 gets used a little for any generic need for pistol powder to form a rifle case, or extra cheap loads for my cheap brother.

It is like an apple with a rotten spot, it gets cut up and eaten first.

Going back a bit to find information on Herters powders. Found a bit of info on these two, their fastest shotshell powder was 160, target and light field loads (Red dot??), the 162 was a "slower powder rated for field loads, all gauges except .410", the 164 was the "slowest shotshell powder, heavy field loads and magnums". No specific loads recommended. This was listed from 1970 Handloaders digest info, dust and cobwebs included. Good luck. Had to laugh when I saw the prices, $1.40 a can.

I have an old Herters catalog, I left it at the office, i'll look at it tomorrow and see what it says about these powders.
