I'm thinking of continuing my collecting hiatus for a while - until prices cool down a bit.

But, for the purposes of advanced planning, I thought I'd throw a question out there as to what might be your next acquisition - if your collection included the following, and you were looking to focus on EBRs in the calibers.223/5.56, 7.62x39, 5.54x39 and/or 7.62x54. And lets say you needed to keep it in the $500 to $1200 range.

  1. Bushmaster A2
  2. Bushmaster A2, match trigger
  3. Colt 16" A3 upper
  4. Bushmaster 16" Patrolman A3
  5. HK93 clone (IGF build on Vector receiver)
  6. Romanian WUM-1
  7. Romanian G kit (AIMS config)
  8. Romanian WUM-2 w/ original furniture

How far can you shoot at your range?

You mentioned 7.62x54r, but don't have anything chambered for it in the photos. How about one of those Dragunov/SVD/PSL-type things? People that know a lot about them will be peeved that I used all of those names interchangably. All I know is there are short-stroke pistons, long-stroke pistons, cheap ones, and REALLY expensive ones.

Also, if you are able to shoot out to 300-400 yards, a flat top 20-24" AR with a good scope might be fun. Even more so if you handload.

The PSL suggestion is a good one, though I've still got questions about its accuracy. Some folks seem to be singing its praise, though I saw one out at a 100 yd range and the pattern was not so impressive - grouping was barely in the black. I'll need to investigate this further.

armoredman - The VZ-58 ... I dunno. I love Czech pistols, but this rifle just does not grab me aesthetically for some reason. How is it performance-wise?

sarduy - good recommendation. The M1A is one I know should consider, but the price is a bit above my range. I was also trying to limit the number of calibers in my collection (I've already got .303, 8mm, .556, 30-06, 7.62x54, .7.62x39, 5.45x39, .22lr plus pistol calibers. Ammo storage space is getting kinda scarce...)

p.s. - 12131 - I wish prices were normal in my neck of the woods. Inventories are low, and prices still sky high. I saw two Springfied M1A classics priced above $1600, never mind the M1A loaded.
