I have been going back and forth on what to get for my concealed piece. I have a P229ST .40 for home protection, and my wife has a NAA .32 Guardian. I want something in .40 (utilize current ammo) and considered the SA EMP, and the P239. Both are still somewhat good size when trying to carry in t-shirts and cargo shorts in FL. I started reading up on Kahr and like what they have to offer. I haven't read much on the CW series, other than the reviews. Is this cheaper model worth the savings, or should I spend the extra cash and get the smaller PM40?

CCW question

Are you really stuck on the .40 in those guns ? I understand why in terms of simplicity of ammo, but the Kahrs tend to run much better in 9mm than in .40.

I dont have a .40 kahr , but i do have both a pm9 and a p9 . Were i to have to select just one it would be the p over the pm . Get the cw and if you find the butt too big you can allways trim it to the pm size , put a pm/mk mag in it and have a covert . As a rule the " full " size Kahr recoil system is much less temperamental than the pm/mk size . My pm runs fine , but i simply cant discount all the complaints on the shorty kahrs as idiot gunowners who do things wrong .

My PM40 runs fine, but then I carry a a whole lot more than I shot it. I've a CW9 for practice and I definitely can carry the PM40 in situations where the CW9 would be a problem. YMMV, but if you can hide a bigger gun, its foolish not to, OTOH if the smaller gun means you have it when the bigger one means you would not, the first rule is "have a gun!"

Thanks for all the replies. I do want to stay with .40. I have read that 9mm is probably a little more reliable, but I'm willing to take the chance. I'm also not too keen on cutting the grip down if it's too long. I just don't trust myself. Is the polygonal rifling that much better than the standard rifling? I also have big hands and the CW would fit better. I guess I would like to know if I will be stupid for not spending the extra cash on the PM if it's a lot better than the CW.

If we're talking 9mm.. i'd say pm9, but since we're talking .40s here i'd go with a P40 because the cost of another mag shortens the price gap to a CW40. The PM40 is a serious handful to shoot comfortably if you want to get some serious range time in. Range time is what it's all about.

**Forgot to mention that you might want to hold off until the SHOT show this January, when alot of the new manufacturers give us a taste of what they will be offering in 2008. I'm holding off all gun purchases until then so I can see what they will bring out for us to spend our hard earned $$ on. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a single-stack G26, or more variations and colors for the springfield EMP. As you can see I'm planning on buying a new CCW also, probably 9mm and Kahr is defintiely in the runnings. But we'll see in January:)

I love my CW40. Went out to break it in today, figured I'd have at least a few malfunctions...didn't have a single one in 250 rounds. I put 200 rounds of blazer brass though it, and followed up with 50 rounds of WWB JHPs. All were 180gr. It is a bit wild to shoot, but if you keep a nice tight grip and firm up your wrist, follow up shots can come quickly enough.

All in all I'm very impressed, and very happy with my purchase. I ended up spending $400 OTD for it. Little high compared to what I see online, but I bought from a reliable dealer that I like to do business with.

Likewise

I love my Kahr CW-9~!

Justin Moon hit a "home run" with the introduction of these fine firearms.
Not as costly, (and not as finely finished) as his other models; but the
CW-9 is an excellent value, and reliable as my beloved West German SIG
P220A. I got mine when they first came out, and 'bout 300 rounds later
I'm a very happy camper~! :scrutiny: ;) :D
