Hello all!

After doing everything I could imagine to smith, repair and restore my few little guns, I find myself incubating a new bug. Step two (and this is where I need help): get more broken guns.

I cannot post on craigslist, so maybe an ad in the local newspaper?

Also, just hoping someone out there may know somebody in my area (Twin Cities, MN) who sells old cheap stock.

Thanks!

Check all the pawn shops, gun shops & flea markets.

Most shops have junkers in the back too bad to put out front & try to sell.

Also, in this part of the country, there are 'Trading Post / Thrifty Nickel type free weekly papers you can put adds in for little of nothing.

A buddy of mine runs a add in one 56 weeks a year.
And comes up with everything from old beaters to almost new Brownings every few weeks.

Not sure about your area, but here I often see a few beaters labeled "parts only" in the LGS's and pawn shops.

Other than that Prax has it right armslist is basically the craigslist of guns, do be forewarned some people on there think their old PoS's are worth MSRP.

If the Police in your state trade confiscated firearms to dealers, get in contact with the dealers. Our local LGS has a couple of guys who buy the junk/broken guns to work on.

I'd get an FFL if you plan on re-selling them.

Welcome to THR, BillyJack. :) I agree with AlexanderA on rural yard sales. I picked up a fairly nice Ruger GP100 .357 Magnum at one several years back.

I wanted to shoot a quick thank you, because it is one of my peeves that OPs often don't reply to their own posts.

Firstly, it would be a dream hook up for me to get a hold of a steady stream of broken LEO stock (or confiscated) and will now be focused on building that type of connection. The only way I can imagine networking for that would be to regular gun shows and ask around. Any other ideas on that front?

As for internet, there is something about face to face that I like, and on the other hand, dislike about all the shipping costs, transfer fees, dishonesty, etc. with net shopping. I will definitely be checking Armslist locally on a regular basis, however.

Garage sales are just too hit and miss to depend on, but I will keep my eyes open, as well as for pawn shops, and flea markets.

Lastly, I may still need to put out an ad in our local paper. It is cheap, and maybe every other issue for a year would be a good way to lessen the cost, but still have a good chance.

Thanks again all, and keep the ideas flowing for both me and posterity!

I will 2nd Al's suggestion on the FFL. The local police won't even discuss the matter with you unless you have one.

The local gun shops and pawn shops. Here in AZ, the law enforcement agencies can no longer destroy firearms that make it to their property rooms, they have to be sold off to FFL’s. This seems to be done as a blind box of undescribed (Anything and everything) weapons for $X.xx amount. The couple of batches I’ve seen included a lot of junk that could be bought cheap.

The other possibility is Backpage.com. I don’t know how active it is in your area, but here in AZ it’s become the place to go for PP sales and there’s always ad’s for “I want your broken guns.”
