I made my rounds of the local pawn shops today. I didn’t find anything I was looking for but there were a couple of interesting finds. Since I only look for S&W revolvers prior to the 1980’s, I would like to know if these are good prices.

First is a used 9mm S&W Model 439. Blued with one mag. Looks like it spent its entire life in someone’s sock drawer. Unknown if it’s in the recall serial number range. Asking $370. That seems like a good price based on the outrages prices on Gunbroker.

Second is a S&W Model 60 labeled as 38 Special. NIB w/ the IL and sleeved (Two piece) barrel tagged for $700 and marked down to $650. S&W website lists it as a 357 Magnum, not 38 Special, with an MSRP of $799. This seems like a good price, but I have no idea what they actually sell for. Gunbroker listings range from $675 to full MSRP with no bids so that wasn’t any help.

Any guidance on current values would be appreciated.

I don't collect S&W semi's but $370 for a high quality S&W Semi seems reasonable. Since it was a pawn ship I would probably start the negotiation with 3 $100 bills on the table and see if they will take it.

The Model 60 may be a 38 Special. I vaguely remember that some where made that way. For a new S&W that seems reasonable but I tend to buy used. I would expect that a used one would go for 2/3rds that price in perfect shape. Unless you want NIB, I would probably pass and continue looking for a nice used one where someone else took the depreciation hit for buying NIB.

Good luck.

I'd say about average price for both pieces. The M60 Pro was (still is?) made in .38 Special. I have seen some crazy prices on nickel 439's, but the blued ones seem to be selling between $3-400.
