I'm looking at PSA Munitions 40 S&W plated bullets for reloading.
I've heard pretty unfavorable reviews about their PSA-branded remanufactured cartridges, but I'll be loading the bullets myself so I'm looking to know if their bullets, just their bullets, are of high quality.
Here's a link to what I'm looking at:
http://palmettostatearmory.com/inde...x-projectiles-40-180gr-rnfp-plated-500ct.html
With their sale, it comes out to about 9 cents each including shipping. This would bring my cost to reload a box of 50 40-cal S&W rounds to less than $10.

They look nice. Solid company too. I cant see how they could get away with selling crap so I say goferit..

How long will processing and shipping take? Anytime I have ordered from them, it's at least three weeks before I get my order. I am not patient enough to wait that long for reloading components.

While I know that PSA is a large concern, I highly doubt that they've invested serious cash into making their own bullets. Buying a couple of Dillon 1050's to sit around and churn out loaded ammo is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions it might take to get a plated bullet factory up and running. Not to mention hiring all the manufacturing specialists and then local, state and federal government inspections and approvals.

Therefore I suggest that PSA is simply buying bullets from a supplier; namely Berry Mfg, Rainier, or Xtreme. While their bullet pricing is good, shipping could make up the difference with other outlets. For instance, with the added cost of USPS Flat Rate these prices are the same as Rocky Mountain who is known to make a first class 180gr 40 cal FP bullet and delivers them for FREE.

Agreed, they are not making them. If they shoot great for you, and you cannot get them from PSA the next time, what do you do?

That said, that part never bothered me when I was young and poor, I just bought the cheapest cast bullets I could find, scrounged lead and cast my own as well.

Most of my pistol shooting did not need to be super accurate anyway. Plinking and playing etc.

A deal is a deal. Business is business. :)

PSA seems to be hit and miss on how long it takes before they ship.
I am STILL waiting for my Black Friday order to ship ... if it takes any longer, I may cancel my order. :fire:

Ouch! I ordered Sunday after and still says "processing"

I really like PSA, and have a local PSA I visit often (cannot beat their gun pricing)...but their online store is a different entity and they do need some serious logistical expertise if they want to improve.

I haven't used PSA for bullets, but have for other stuff, and everything has been fine.

Have a look at http://www.xtremebullets.com

They periodically have a 10-15% off coupon, so get set up on their email list.

I also think they have a 10% off first order discount and their shipping is 5 bucks regardless of quantity.

I've ordered 9mm and .223 from them and the quality seems to be excellent.

What did you order? I ordered an ar15 barreled upper from them the Tuesday after black fri I believe and it was at my door 14 days later.

They have an forum for "where's my order?" Over at ar15.com in the industry section.

I've always had good luck with them and their ship times, might be worth a forum post or an email.

Thanks for the posts.
PSA's shipping costs do stink and don't scale well, I give you that. When I made the thread, they had a 30 percent off reloading supplies sale that brought the price down to 9cpr, the others posted here are 10-12cpr but I might just go with one of them

I figure that most of you guys in this forum cast or have supplies from long ago when things were cheaper :)

Sales are worth slow shipping if the price is right.
I ordered bouncing targets and .300 BLK ammunition. Prices were definitely worth the wait.

But since my order, I have gone to the scrap yard and picked up enough 3/8" steel plates to set up my own pistol match stage for drills/practice. I just need to weld up the bases and paint the targets. So for my next range trip, I really won't need the bouncing targets but I think they would provide additional amusement and fun for younger shooters.

As to .300 BLK ammunition, I will be loading up some rounds this week for this weekend's shooting trip so arrival of ammunition would be mute. At least when the order arrives, I can do factory vs reload comparison of .300 BLK and I will have more brass to reload. :D

I will not order from them again.

Placed an order for a case of ammo (Yes I know blasphemy);) But I like to have a case on hand just because.

Anyway I really am not concerned with super fast shipping, really do not care if it is a day or a few weeks.

They said I would be notified when it ships. Fair enough. Never did receive any notice. I just like to know kinda when.

So I tried calling (this is the issue) no one answers, Tried all different times, days etc. Nothing. So I e mail. No reply either.

I eventually got my ammo and a day or so later I get a e mail that it will be shipping soon??

Communication is all I want!

To many other places that want your business.

Mild steel won't last long and will become hazardous to shoot.

Been waiting on a PSA order placed 12/4- still processing and I'm local and do store pickup.
I did buy a package deal of 500 ea .45 230 grain plated and 500 cleaned brass with a military style ammo can included. What arrived was a cheap plastic ammo "can" instead. Happy with the bullets and brass.
BTW I emailed them about the ammo can mixup 41 days ago and am still waiting for a reply.

IME, as a general rule, PSA and quality don't belong in the same sentence.

And I'm not sure God himself can help you when their QC screws up and their non-existence customer service cannot be reached.

(when they screw up post it publicly on ar15.com, that seems to be the only thing that gets their attention)

Dang. PSA sounds like a bad place to shop. Sounds even worse than Botach Tactical, and those guys are legendary.
I won't give my business to a company that conducts itself that way.
