I'm new to shotguns and am looking for an instructional DVD. Before anyone warns me against learning from DVDs... don't bother. I understand the limitations of learning anything from a TV screen and I plan on putting in PLENTY of trigger time and getting formal instruction. But I do enjoy watching instructionals in conjunction with my training if only for different perspective or the occasional new tip. With that out of the way...

Like I said I am new to shotguns but NOT new to guns. I'd like something that covers fundamentals of shotgun shooting and the more defensive (dare I say tactical) aspects of the shotgun. I am not interested in hunting or sporting games right now but I will likely get into practical shooting competition later.

Some that I'm aware of and considering are Matt Burkett's "Shotgun Mastery", Louis Awerbuck's "Combat Shotgun", Lenny Magill's "Mastering the Combat Shotgun", John Shaw's "Combat Shotgun Seminar" and Gunsite's "Tactical Shotgun 1." Anyone seen any of these or have other recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

I am interested in this question, also. Does anyone have a reply? Thank you.

Gunsite's Tactical Shotgun for Self Defense http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/6305120811/qid=1153025410/sr=8-3/ref=pd_bbs_3/002-4410606-5504811?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=404272

stood head and shoulders above their other offerings. There are a couple of different shotgun videos from Gunsite, but I got the one in a yellow box, not the black and white one. It should be about ten bucks online now. I think it's a good enough video to watch over every now and then.

I honestly got more out of that than I did from a two day course. It definitely won't hurt to go to a course, but it might not help either.

If you have a VHS player, I've been threatening to add my copy of Louis Awerbuck's "Combat Shotgun" to the Lending Library (see sticky at top of index page). You can be the first to borrow it if you want, PM me with a mailing address and I'll send it out to you. You obligate yourself to send it on to the next THR member who requests it, and to see that the lending library thread is updated to reflect the new location of the item.

You CAN get useful information from books or videos, but taking a class from a good instructor should still be high on your list of things to do. There's no substitute for a good trainer. IMO Louis Awerbuck is among the best in the world as far as the defensive shotgun is concerned.
