Anyone have any experience with getting decent "Ivory" looking grips for their revolvers without costing more than the gun or having to sand half the grip away. I'm looking for a decent looking set for a uberti navy and a Taylor's (uberti) Remington New army conversion. Anyone sell anything close to original fit and finish without having to get out the sand paper?

You won`t have any luck finding grips that will fit out of the box ..I ordered a set of stock wood grips from VTI once and it took alot of sanding to fit them ..and they came finished ..I should have ordered the unfinished ones , they were cheaper .Since I`ve ordered grip blanks from Dixie in rose wood for 5 bucks ...If fact Dixie might have the fake Ivory grips ..check their site .
Only problem with fake Ivory grips ...They look like fake Ivory grips .

DixieG.W. does have them just dont know if they have them for your revolvers. Something you'll have to look through at their site. Even those for your pistol will need sanding if coming from DGW. If I remember correctly even the same model gun will matter as to who it's made by for the correct size/type grips needed.

As sundance said they will look fake but you can "improve" them by antiquing them. With this forum and the intructions that come with them you can make them look not as fake or at least more desirable if thats what your looking for. I soaked mine in coffee after putting in the antique marks I wanted. Soak until you get the yellow that you want then let dry. To get an ivory sheen I just used clear coat when finished. They still wouldnt pass for ivory but look much better than the bright white they come in.

On the original revolvers, and reproductions as well, a set of stocks is hand fitted to a particular frame (and in the case of Colt's, the backstrap and trigger guard) while the parts are still in the white. The fitted stocks are numbered to that individual gun. After the parts are finished (blued, plated or whatever) the matching stocks are reunited with the gun.

For this reason it is unlikely you will find a set of aftermarket grips that are a perfect fit. If you want a perfect fit there are two choices. Either order the stocks oversized and fit them yourself, or send the handle-part of the revolver to the stockmaker and have them do the fitting.

Personally, I do my own fitting.
