Update 29 March 2016

While I haven't seen or heard of any of these rare Ubertis lately; I know there are still a bunch of them out there somewhere. So............ Let's update this request for info.

I am seeking the location of, and any information available on a line of stainless steel percussion Colt revolvers made by Uberti and imported by Allen Firearms, Santa Fe, NM; Southwest Muzzleloaders Supply, Inc. Angleton, TX, Uberti USA, and possibly others in the early to mid '80s. Phil Spangenberger did an article about these stainless revolvers in the October 1983 issue of Guns and Ammo Magazine. According to the article, the models that were being imported were the 1851 Navy, 1860 Army, 1861 Navy, 1862 Pocket Navy, and 1862 Pocket police. Thanks to Dr. J.L. Davis of RPRCA, Claremore, OK, I have a 1984 price list for Uberti products that lists fourteen different models of Stainless Steel Colts produced by Uberti at that time. Subsequent price lists expanded the line to 16 models by adding 4 ½ inch barreled Pocket Navy and Pocket Police. The complete model list, known so far, is:

1851 Navy, Oval Triggerguard Revolver, Cal. .36
1851 Navy Squareback Triggerguard Revolver, Cal. .36 *@
1851 Navy “Sheriff’s Model” Oval Triggerguard Revolver, Cal. .36 *
1851 Navy “Sheriff’s Model” Squareback Triggerguard Revolver, Cal. .36
1860 Army Military, Cut For Stock, Cal. .44 *@
1860 Army Military, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .44*@
1861 Navy Military, Cut For Stock, Revolver, Cal. .36 * @
1861 Navy Civilian, Revolver, Cal. .36
1861 Navy Military, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36
1861 Navy Civilian, With Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 4 ½”
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 5 ½”*@
1862 Police, Semi-Fluted Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 6 ½”
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 4 ½”*
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 5 ½”*
1862 Pocket Navy, Engraved Cylinder, Revolver, Cal. .36, Barrel 6 ½”
(* - have identified location of examples of these models)
(@ - have this model)

So far, total is now 25 known. I have seven of these revolvers and know of eighteen others in hands of other collectors or BP shooters. Anyone with information concerning Allen Firearms, Southwest Muzzleloaders Supply or any other Uberti Stainless Steel Colt style revolvers is requested to contact [email protected] I am seeking information as to models, manufacture dates, serial numbers, barrel markings, barrel lengths, trigger guards, and any other characteristics as well as any catalog, brochure and original packaging information.

Of course, if anyone has any for sale, I would be interested in that also.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Nope. I've been looking at various auction sites but nothing has turned up. I see stainless steel but no stainless steel Ubertis.

Are they marked as to the importer. perhaps photos as to what to look for.

Some yes, some no (read the OP). They have standard Uberti markings for the period they were made (1982-1987). They are all stainless steel - Barrel, cylinder, frame, hammer, back strap & trigger guard.

I'm still mesmerized..

with the cheap Pietta blued ones I got on sale. All come complete with cosmetic flaws so you don't have to sweat the small stuff like you would with a near mint vintage Python or some such. :D
I have really enjoyed looking at and reading about the stainless fourth generation Colts and stainless replicas. One may be in my future when I grow up in this addiction a bit. But for the near term I can be classified as 'easily amused'. Would love to see pics and read any range reports / field accounts of these revolvers.

Ok Fingers.

Am familiar with manufacturing cartouches, jus wondered if Allen Firearms used any markings as the importer.

Allen firearms used "Allen F.A. MFG.-SANTA FE N.M."; Southern Muzzle Loading Supply used "SMLS INC-ANGLETON-TEXAS" for barrel address. Others are blank. Of the 26 I have or know of, I didn't record the barrel address on five (or couldn't get the info at the time), four have no barrel address; one has the SMLS address and one has "Address Col Sam Colt New-York U.S. American”.

And I'm still looking for ya. :)

Nothing. :banghead:

(As a side note there were four or five stainless steel Second Generation Colts with genuine ivory grips (pre ban) on an auction site. Minimum bid was steep.)

If you are talking about he ones on GB being offered for a $3000 buy now each; they are nickel plated not SS. IMNSHO, they are priced about 35% more than they are worth. I doubt they will ever sell at what's being asked.

I paid less for a 3rd Model Dragoon with case & nickel plated accessories.

Its the joy of the treasure hunt that makes it all worth while!!!

I've been keeping my eyes open but I see an SS one and get all excited just to find it has a brass trigger guard.

Picky-picky.

Good Luck with your quest.
