Looking to buy a chrono who makes a good reliable one

Was looking at buying a new chrono anyhelp with picking a good one would be appreciated. I have a chony F1 now and it finally died so need an upgrade. Thanks in advance

Make sure it has the 15' cord and bench display.
Do yourself a favor and get the optional $15 pushbutton switch so you can go through the display if you forgot to write something down.

I always estimated my bullet speed until I got this thing, then I realized just how much I was OFF!
Several hundred feet per second at 3,990 FPS makes a big difference on a woodchuck at 500 yards.

I have the Shooting Chrony Beta Master. I use it on top of a camera tripod I got at WalMart. I got it at Midway a few years ago for $99. Its works well for me.

What I tried to keep in mind when deciding how much to spend is the saying I found many times when doing research "It's not if your Chronograph will get shot it's when"

If it were me I'd just upgrade to the wired display that sits on the bench

Think about it ... would you put your favorite spotting scope between your gun and the target... then why would you want to put your "whole" chronograph out there?

With the above "type" ... if you shoot a screen ... it is <$20 to replace it.

Don't think it would happen to you just do a google on "shot chrony" to see what comes up... plenty on the THR!!

I've been using the PACT Professional Chronograph for about 8 years now. It's much better than the cheaper brand that it replaced, and printing out the data makes it even better.

The Oehler 35 chrono has long been the Gold Standard of amateur grade chronographs. When they were discontinued a few years ago the prices for used ones tripled. It is now available again, so what else is there to say?
 
I have an old Ohler 33 that works just like the day it was made 30+ years ago.
Plus we have a newer Ohler out at our local range that was bought second hand.
I also had a $79 Chrony (sale price) that lasted for years and was always within 10 fps of the other chronographs. But it had a little problem a few weeks ago,

It had an undesirable display-screen to heavy-metal interface.

Another vote for the Shooting Chrony. Get another one. :) I've got the Master Gamma model with the remote display, printer, etc. It's been a fantastic little piece of equipment.
 
What can be interesting is putting two chronos of the same brand back to back... The variance in readings can be surprising.

Got one of these for Christmas. Like it so far, but have not had a chance to use it much. So far, so good. I like to remote display and the ability to set the chrono a little farther away to get a more accurate reading. Or so I feel.
 
Does the Shooting Chrony with the remote display have the "brain/computer" in the remote display or is it still in the main box where it can get shot?

The brains are in the dislpay box that sits on the bench, only the sensors and battery are in the line of fire.

Edit to add: All the buttons are right there on the bench as well, no need to get up and go down range

Not easy to do with pistol, but be careful rifle shooting. As a result I'm on my second one, they are an excellent value.

Yep, one must remember that at 5 yards or so (wherever it is set up at) the bullet impact will be very low when using a scope.
 
I have use Chrony's for 17-18 years. Shot out two of them when I got in a hurry to finish up.

I now have the top of the line, whatever that is called these days. The remote display is nice. I also have the printer. I shoot and save the data then go inside and run it through the printer and record the data in my files. The only thing I write in the field is the string number and an ammo reference.

I have always had good luck with the Chrony's. Sometimes I have to put a black ring with a sharpie on the bullet for the screens to see it. Usually with 17 and 20 caliber bullets but sometimes with bigger ones.

I recently got a CED M2 to try out. It has been too cold the play with. Not sure why I bought it except maybe to keep the electronics out of harms way. The M2 got some good comments. It has the ability to connect to a real computer.

Yeah, be sure you have that company's "Help, I've Shot My Chronograph" hotline number!!
