Well, for years now I have been buying guns with the intent of filling some kind of void, some purpose to fit a certain kind of scenario. I kind of lost sight of my original intent, to shoot guns and have a good time. I've been spending too much time worrying about all of those little particulars, I'm sure some of you can relate, that I haven't really been shooting that much.

I just want to splurge a little money on a gun, doesn't need to fill any tactical role like CCW,HD,PD,SHTF, nothin like that. I just want to spend between $250-$300 and have a gun that is economical and fun to shoot. Not really lookin for anything in particular, just has to be quality and hold up well cuz I'm gonna shoot it a lot. Its just gonna be my knock around gun that I don't have to clean obsessively and worry about its ability to do this or that. All I need it to do is shoot. I was thinkin about a little makarov or something like that, just wanted to hear some ideas.

Even though I am not a fan, the SW Sigma in 9mm would fit the bill of goods you generally list.

NIB and with a $50 rebate you can get the gun in that price range and you have a major company supporting the platform.

Bersa 9mm might also be a gun that might fit in your requirements and price point.

Otherwise look for used.

The biggest thing to get past in your price range is the
just has to be quality and hold up well
requirement

The Makarov is a quality weapon that is true and cheap (not like it once was but still economical) ammo seems plentiful for now. It would be a good choice too.

a Makarov or a TTC would be ideal.

Here I thought you were being facetious!

I was also gonna suggest a .22LR like a 10/22 as a knock around gun, but it looks like you want a pistol...

I have put a few thousand rounds through my Romanian TTC and aside from some multiple round bursts - limp wristing after shooting 120 rounds, it works great and is pretty accurate. I only shoot the new non-corrosive stuff but at under $20/box it is still the cheapest non-rimfire I have...

Easy answer is a Tok either a TT33, Norinco 54-1 or a TTC. You can shoot these for very little money and they will keep shooting no matter how often they get cleaned.

cheap gun that you'll enjoy shooting -- tokarev or cz-82. both can be had in your price range.

since it seems you have HD and CCW guns, get the tokarev for it's supremely cheap ammo.

For me, a fun gun that's economical to shoot would probably be either a .22 or a 9mm. In a .22, I would go with a Ruger MKII 5 1/2" bull barrel. Accurate and reliable, the Ruger is decent way to go. My choice in a 9mm. would be a Hi-Power copy; possibly an Hungarian FEG or else an Argentine FM. Still relatively inexpensive, a proven design, and easy to find replacement parts and mags for. Either way, both guns are fun to shoot and ammo costs are nominal.

.22 is screaming at ya

Get yourself a .22 autoloader. ANY of the Rugers, S&W 22a or the Browning Buckmark. You just can't go wrong with any of them. I have had all three, and they are all perect for the job. Shoot until your finger bleeds for 20 bucks.
Revolver? I've owned a few .22's, and the one I almost always throw in the bag is the Ruger Single Six. Just about perfect in every way.
When it comes to barrel length, get between a 4 1/2 and 6 inch for a couple of reasons: 1. you will be more accurate with it, which will make you feel better about shooting, so you'll shoot more.. and 2. It's still small enough for a tackle box gun..
Just my opinion.. Have fun!

I second the Tokarev and Makarov suggestions. Cheap to buy and shoot. I know you listed this in pistols, but I suggest also looking at pistol caliber carbines. If you've never shot one, let me tell you, they are fun plinkers.

$300 for a plain ol' fun-to-shoot handgun? Easy. Get a .22. I suggest a Ruger Mark II/III or a Browning Buck Mark, whichever fits your hand the best.

A used 2nd or 3rd Gen Smith.

Any used P Series Ruger. I like the P89 (9mm), P90 (.45) and the P94 (.40). Might even find one new in that price range with the P95.

I'd also look at a used Taurus PT92. My PT92AF is an older gun that I got for $200. It has been perfect.

Police trade-ins often offer great deals on guns that are to be shooters. Replace a few springs and you are good to go.

Plenty of Daewoo's in 9mm or .40S&W all less than $300, n.i.b. for a little more.
Economical, nice "tri-action" trigger...A name like Daewoo scares people away, but those that have one are pleasantly surprised...

How about a Sig Mosquito, (X2) Ruger Mark II/III or Walther P22? 22 LR pistols are a lot of fun to shoot and ammo is cheap.

Just a good pistol for economical fun plinking? Browning Buck Mark or Ruger, .22 autos are hard to beat for sheer grin factor.

I'd say a single action 22 revolver ...

If you're not trying to fill a niche and want some fun, why not try to look like a cowboy and shoot at funky things with cheap bullets?
