has the peep sites right out of the box. and correct me if im wrong but i have been told s&w has life time warranty on their firearms.

how reliable are the .22lr conversion kits for ar15s? im thinking about this:

im spoiled by my sig 522 .22lr rifle. it never malfunctions with any brand of cheap bulk ammo. can i expect that with a conversion kit?

Don't pay $700 for an M&P Sport.... You should be paying closer to $550 for that. It's a good budget AR, but it's not a $700 AR.

Personally, if I were in the .22LR AR market, I would have a hard time not just getting an M&P15-22. It will only be about $130 more than that conversion kit, and you'll get the benefit of it being its own rifle.

Many barrels on ARs don't have the right twist for 22lr so you might eventually prefer a dedicated 22lr upper.

That said, as long as the chamber is clean when you install the kit they work fine. I've shot a lot of 22lr through mine before buying another upper. Of course another upper gives you the opportunity to buy more scopes etc., so it's not all bad.

I know you didn't ask, but McFadden Machine's Lightning Grip Loader is pretty slick for loading those 22lr magazines. You can load about as fast as anyone can shoot.

Which is the way I ended up going. I first bought a Spikes tactical .22LR conversion for my LE6920 which worked quite well. The 1:7 twist did OK for drills ect. After a couple years I got tired of cleaning the crap out of my AR, and bought the S&W M&P15-22. It's a great little rifle, eats anything I put in it, and get's cleaned once in a while....

The CMMG conversion kits a very reliable, but... The twist rate and bore diameter of any 5.56/.223 barrel is all wrong for the .22lr. You will get frustrated quickly trying to get any kind of accuracy past 25 yards, but they are fun for close in practice.

As suggested the Smith M&P 15-22 is the best way to go for a AR .22 rimfire style rifle, I have two. I also have a dedicated .22 LR DPMS carbine, it is a wonderful shooter and the same weight etc. as a standard AR but the S&W is as accurate and shooting them side by side I prefer the 15-22 as a no nonsense plinker.

The best way is a dedicated .22LR upper, but yeah, the M&P 15-22 is a good choice too.
