Buy with confidence from Atlantic. I got a turd from TGI and Atlantic went the extra mile to make sure TGI did right.

Yeah, I completely understand. I thought about putting an Aimpoint or similar thing on mine, but I shoot at the range a lot and liked the magnification. I'm hoping to try to get some good accuracy out of the rifle for grins with good ammo, so that should be helpful.

The years of battery life is really awesome. Not sure how long the batteries in the leatherwood will last or what kind are in the Aimpoint. The leatherwood has an etched reticle, so when I'm in the woods and such I usually turn off the red dot.
One of the only reasons I chose it was the reticle-its nice and fast. Don't know if you've seen it, but its got a circle with a nice accurate 1MOA dot in the center. (Its really weird...its a nice simple reticle but there are very few scopes that have this with a 1MOA dot.) The glass is ok, its not a Leupold or anything but for $350 its no slouch. Plus you can shoot with both eyes open on 1x if that is important to the buyer.

Definitely understand the desire to get some accuracy out of these guns. People at the range thought it was crazy that I was getting 1 MOA targets from my $80 mosin :D

I think the Aimpoint uses AA or AAA batteries, but I'm not positive. Even if it uses 123As, I've gota have them for my light anyway, so might as well use them too. But with one of them getting 8 years to the battery, I might just leave the thing on while in storage to have it immediately ready to go and just replace it at every pres election.

I saw that reticle and it does look pretty nice. It looks almost like a EOTech type reticle which is honestly my favorite, but 8 years of battery life is just too much to give up for one more circle :) I like the hold over lines on one of the reticle options though. I'm sure it would be helpful for anything over 300 yards where the 7.62x39 starts to get a bit loopy in its trajectory.

There is only the one reticle option. I can't shoot past 300 yards at any range near me, but yeah does seem helpful.

8 years of battery life is fantastic though, you can't get rid of that. Plus Aimpoints will take anything you throw them at :p

What kind do you have?

Haha never know when you might need to throw a red dot sight at someone!

Currently still researching for what I specifically want to get. I'm a college student, so I try to take my time and figure out exactly what I want and the best way to get it (buy once and all that jazz...) I had a pretty good collection of pistols, then decided to get into motorcycles and sold almost all of them, but have decided that the upkeep costs of a bike are just too steep, so I'm selling the bike and planning on buying one or two high quality guns and take a carbine class and save the rest.

What I'm looking at getting now is an Arsenal SLR-107 F with a Ultimak rail and a CompM4S. I'm also going to try to get the rifle worked over by Rifle Dynamics. This is all subject to change though when it really sinks in how much this is going to cost me . Hopefully finding a used rifle will help a bit.

i would recommend looking at the wasr 10/63, as these come in as a true ak variant, correct ak furniture slant cut brake w/threads/cleaning rod/bayonet lug/side mount scope rail/chrome lined barrel/comes with the bayonet/ and these are from the cugir factory not put together by cai, well maybe the tapco trigger which is a plus, the 10/63s has an updated front trunion with added contact support for the bolt carrier, these are made from demilled military rifles which makes quality much better for these models, info got of the net, and plus i have 3 romanian variants all from cugir factory. you get all of these for $449 cant really go wrong, and will be getting one myself.

Ehmm...buddy not sure what you're talking about. I haven't seen WASRs with a side mounted scope rail or bayonet, and I would check your facts on the century putting them together issue.

Also, a lot of the WASRs are made from parts that are were deemed out of spec or not useable in the Romanian military...so I would not say that they are stronger at all. And the updated front Trunion? The Saigas are based off of the AK-100 whereas the WASRs are based off of an AKM. The AK-100 is a newer version with several improvements. I doubt that a WASR would have a better trunion.

@Telekinesis I feel the same way as you about buying something once. I'm in High school, and I don't want to save up for something twice :p
I'll send you a PM so as not to hijack the thread :)

I would be wary of ANYTHING built by Century. Things like poor QC and customer service are company wide issues, not issues related to a single gun. If you get anything from them, make sure your local dealer has a generous return/replacement policy.

Sorry for the earlier thread jack guys, just got carried away with all that gun talk. You know how it is... Now back to posts about $750 AKs

calgun fan dont know where you have been, let me help you, just incase you or others never seen a wasr 10/63 available for the masses

by the way dont forget to check out the reviews
by the way i aint no ak guru by any stretch i just like to research and soak up info from those who actually have had expereince with the rifles.
but for the op i know your budget is $750, but if you could sneak in another $49.90 you could get
this for $449.95 with some accessories

Thanks, guys! I really appreciate all of you guys responding back to me. It looks like I will either consider the Saiga or the Arsenal at this point, but I'm not going to write off some of the other options yet. Again, thanks a lot!

I just bought a used WASR 10/63 over the weekend for $600 off a local (statewide) gun message board, seller was 70 miles away, met him half way for FTF transaction. Before anyone starts saying WASR's are junk, and I paid too much, this is one of their later 10/63's that were made from a matching serial numbers 1985 date Guarda semi-auto gun, not a converted milled out WASR 10 made from reject parts like the earlier WASR 10/63's were, also the previous owner had tacti-cooled it, so it came with lots of rails, side mount optics mount, red dot sight, sure-fire tactical light, soft side case, metal side fold stock, spare M4 style stock, etc. I post this as an example of what can be found, the ad was up for almost 24 hours, and had several replies from people on the other side of the state, so I did not snipe this deal. I think part of the reason it took that long to sell is that the earlier WASR's have given them all a bad reputation since Century did nothing to distinguish the WASR 10/63's which were built from milled out WASR 10's which were originally assembled from reject parts fromt he later (2007+) WASR 10/63's which were mostly built from recycled military guns. I suspect the key to finding a potentially good one is looking at the serial number, if it has a triangle to the left (with or without arrow in it) and a 4 digit year (earlier probably better) with matching serial number on the bolt and carrier it is probably a good gun, or at least started out as one.
