Doing freelance Shooting Event's/PR for Nikon Sport Optic's i put a lot of rounds downrange every year with many different rifles. One of the most reliable and entry level rifles I have ever used is the DPMS Oracle. I was doing some product testing one 104 deg. day in N. TX and put 1000 rounds through a 7.62 and 1000 rounds through a 5.56 without so much as one FTF ot FTE. I managed to get the barrel so hot I melted a pleather barrel rest to the barrel. 1 inch accuracy at 100 yards using Winchester 55 gr FMJ ammo. What's not to like, great price,QC and DPMS standing behind what you buy. When you're looking for an optic, check out Nikon's P-223 line, some great option's for your AR. Thank you for your service!

The Ruger AR-556 would also be a good choice, those can be had for $650 out the door.

As far as the trigger problems on the S&W, their warranty is first rate, send it in, get it fixed, problem solved. A defective part comes off the line every once in a while.

As for the S&W M&P Sport, all I can tell you is that the one in the next lane wasn't firing reliably when she pulled the trigger. It was having trigger group problems.

Do you know if the hammer was dropping, or was the gun just failing to fire? I'm only asking because, in cases of the latter, I usually question the ammo first when the gun is an example of a normally-respected and reputable line.

I've had mine for about two years, but have yet to fire it. Just want to know what to watch for..

Cabela's has the DPMS Oracle on sale now for $525. Per Cabela's CS, the sale lasts until May 8.

Personally, I'd be leary of DPMS. Remington group owns them now, along with Marlin and Bushmaster. They've pretty much taken Marlin into the toilet, as well as Remington.

Its all about cost cutting and maximum profit for these guys.
