I'm in the Shreveport-bossier area and I am intrested in getting into shooting competitions. but I have no idea where to starting any help?

USPSA has a Club locator function on their website (www.uspsa.org).

Doing some plugging in using Shreveport as a source this one looks to be the closest at about and hour and a half away:

No website, but everyone I know in shooting comps is very friendly. I'd give the listed contact a call (or send an email), mention that you're interested, and see when they hold their matches. Good luck - competitive shooting is some of the most fun I've personally had in years. Not only that, since I've started, my shooting has improved more in the last six months than it has in the last 10 years. Its excellent practice.

Showing up and watching a local match is the best thing to do.

For most types of events, you need:
* A practical pistol - if you've already got one, thats great. Otherwise, show up at a match and see what everyone else is shooting.
* 3-4 magazines (3 for IDPA, 4 or more for IPSC)
* At least one double magazine holster
* an OWB or IWB gun holster that holds the gun securely. The nylon ones aren't ideal, but some clubs will let you use them when you're getting started.
* And 150 rounds of ammo or so.

If you've got all that, then show up ready to shoot. Otherwise, show up and spectate a match. People are usually thrilled to talk about their hobbies with new people.

This, and I'd wager that if you DON'T have all the equipment you need - if its a club of any size somebody would likely have a rig to lend to you. I personally keep an extra gun, holster, mags and pouches in my bag on the off chance that my primary gun rolls over and dies before the match, but I know I'd be more than happy to lend it out to anyone who wanted to shoot a match as a trial.

I know one guy I met at a multi-discipline charity match who has shot cowboy action for 3-4 months and still doesn't own all the required guns. He just shows up at the matches and borrows them. :)

I'm guessing by your handle though that you at least own a Glock 17 :), which is a perfect gun for USPSA Production or IDPA SSP.

OR Google USPSA, IPSC, IDPA or Steel Challenge (space)+(space)+Your City. If no hitsThen use the nearest larger city. OR Pistol Matches + your city, etc. It'll hit

IDPA is great place to start. You don't need all the bells and whistles to be competitive. At my club IDPA matches we have cleared building's, sat in a car and took out hostiles, lots of shooting while moving. Be sure to bring 3 magazines, holster, cover garment, about 100 rounds of ammo, and a bottle of water.

Go check out the Long Range Alley, great range to practice on and they have competitions every now and then. I just got to Bossier city so im not to familiar but so far ive been hitting up the range every weekend. The Long Range Alley is about a 15-20 minute drive and while a bit expensive, something like $250 unless your military and/or NRA, but its a very nice clean safe range. I don't shoot any competition yet, im trying to get into the rifle competitions but I just don't have the time to dedicate to it yet.

And another plug for Bayoushooter.com, great group of guys.
