It's picture has been sitting on the range bulletin board for a while now and I finally caved in. 6" Hi Standard made in Hamden CT, .22 cal mint condition. I've been messing around with Rugers for a while now and can't seem to get a trigger I like with them. This one has a beautiful trigger. It comes with a red dot scope, I'm not sure of the scope quality but I've got a spare Ultra Dot hanging around so it doesn't matter. Unfortunately he's going away for a couple weeks so I won't be able to get it till he comes back. $600. What do you think?

If you're in Connecticut, you ought to be able to find good quality Hamden High Standards for less than $600: that's where they were made, after all, and sold in large numbers. Haggle long. Haggle hard.

I've never found an American-made .22 caliber match pistol with a trigger the equal of the average High Standard.
 
Ibought a new High Standard Supermatic "Citation" around 1980. I have many bricks of ammo through it & it still works as good as it did when it was brand new! Maby Better!:cool: :)
 
The price depends on exactly which High Standard model you are talking about. They made everything from plinkers to Olympic models.

+1 The price is right up there and on the high side for a number of the Hi-Std models. I shot a Victor model for a few years , but frankly I wouldn't pay $600 for one today.
 
Supermatic Tournament model is all I can recall right now. I'm looking for reliability so what you guys are saying here is encouraging. I was thinking about a S&W 41 but the reliability (or lack thereof) of those was brought to my attention by a few people. "It doesn't happen a lot (jams) but it's just enough to tick you off." The only trigger I feel to be comparable right now is the one on my ~ '53 Colt Woodsman. The trigger was done by Colt way back when. All you have to do is THINK about pulling the trigger and it fires. I don't want to drill it for a scope though so it remains a safe queen. It has less than 100 rounds through it. Bought it from my FIL so I have to believe what he and Mom are telling me.

According to the owner the Hi Standard only has "Maybe 1000 rounds through it" which is why $600 doesn't seem so bad to me. Most of the others I've seen were pretty much shot out. Apparently he was another that bought it to compete and then dropped out of competition for one reason or another so the gun didn't see much action.

I forgot, it also says "Military" on the barrel. I did some searching and the ones I see are in the $700 to $850 range RETAIL. I DID see one auctioned off for $326 though. Apparently it had some blueing wear "in the usual places" There is NO wear on the one I looked at.
