I am considering applying for a job with this company as an armed driver. Does anyone know the type of sidearm and caliber they are authorized to carry? Thanks.

Sometimes this is controlled by the state. Used to be in NC security could only carry 38 revolvers. I think this is still the case because that looks like what they are carrying now when I see them.

Thanks. This job is in my home state of Florida. Guarding that much money with a .38 seems a bit archaic in these times.

I agree. I am pretty sure armed security officers are regulated by your state. If you search FL state laws you may find your answer.

Thanks ccw007. I searched the Florida laws and it looks like a .38 or .357 pistol firing .38 ammo only, or a 9mm semi-auto are allowed. This is based on if the license is a type "D" or "G" which doesn't mean much to me as I don't know which license the armed drivers have. If I get an interview I will ask. Being able to carry a good high capacity 9mm would be nice. I wouldn't mind "having" to buy a nice Beretta 92 or Glock 17 etc. for work. :)

I too am applying for Loomis, in the birmingham area. I have a Taurus pt145, and a Ruger p95, but with the loan they offer, i'm considering (meaning, i really want, hehe) the new springfield XDm in .40, with the 5 inch barrel. any thoughts?

also, i keep about 500 rds handy. just in case. i dont like buying ammo last minute. makes range trips expensive.

The XDm is only availabe w/ a 4.5" or 3.8" barrel. I too would love to see a shorter grip, say 13 rounds instead of 16 & a 5" tube. maybe they will do this just for us after reading this post.

Just FYI...A long time ago when I worked for them, only the ATM technicians could carry their own sidearm.

You get what they issue to you. Back then it was .38 Revolvers (with their ammunition) and 12 gauges for the armoured cars. I was a 1 man unit in Phoenix driving an armoured Ford Escort.

I was a sales manager for Office Depot in Missouri less than a year ago. We used them to transport deposits. I almost everyone of them I saw except one with a revolver had a semi-auto. I saw one with a XD one with a Taurus, and everyone is had some unknown cheapo.

I have a buddy who used to work for Loomis in Arkansas. He carried a Glock 21, and told me that he wanted to carry his 1911, but was told it didn't hold enough rounds.

Take from that what you will.

So is Matt taking good care of you? In Alabama you can carry any Glock, Springfield armory, Para LDA, or conventional double action pistol in 9, 40 and 45. If you carry a revolver it will have to be in .38. For the op in Fl the state limits you to .38 or 9mm. I've been with the Huntsville branch for six years and carry a Glock 21SF.
