I have a 870 that I bought as a police trade-in at my local shop (good deal at $169), and have taken it to an indoor range to pattern with HD ammo. It patterned nicely, but when I took it to the skeet field today just for fun, I noticed that the trigger group has a little side to side play in the receiver. I have taken it out to clean and put some new sear and carrier dog springs in and it looked to be in good shape. Is this common in a well used 870 (being a former 870P, it probably was racked and carried in a car alot, but shot little)?

The fit of the trigger plate in the receiver on 870s seems to vary sometimes from gun to gun. I got another used Express gun last week, and when I pushed out the trigger plate pins it took a bit of effort to extract the trigger plate from the receiver. After everything got a good cleaning, it was a bit of trouble to get it back in as well. I have others that don't fit nearly as tightly.

Installing a Sidesaddle is one possibility to tighten up the fit. Brownells has anti-walk replacement pins that might help also- see http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/st...4&title=SHOTGUN ANTI-WALK TRIGGER HOUSING PIN .

Thanks guys. Sounds like the slight amount of play is normal. We'll leave it as is as it does shoot really well. Happy easter!
