I have hunted the same out of state property for the last 23 seasons. There have been other hunts in other locations overlapping this farm, but opening day, has been in the same place all those years.

I found out, just before the season started, that this year is likely the last on this property. The owners have several tracks of land, and have offered a different piece of ground.

Maybe it is my age (or the excess of it) or health (or the lack of it) but the idea of learning a new place and setting up a hunting camp (there is a single machine shed on the new property) has me thinking I may just pull the plug on the whole excercise.

I still have opportunities closer to home. The only real draw to the out of state hunt is the people with whom I hunt. They are still mulling the transition.

Take advantage of the opportunity for a new experience and do it! Being older just means you'll live it that much more. Good hunting!

Well, I can find it on the map. Buddy said it was all uphill from the road; he was not kidding

Thanks for the encouragement :)

The reason for bringing the younguns into the hunt deal is so the Olde Pharts can have young and healthy types to do the grunt work. Fix things, get the firewood, tote the deer. All that stuff. Olde Pharts shoot deer and direct traffic. Maybe, just maybe, do the cooking--but not the dishes.

Art, I am working on my son with limited success, but he is so busy anymore. Maybe I can find some young blood on Craigslist

Browse the Hunting Mentors sticky at the top of the page. See if there might be any likely candidates. Even the experienced folks sometimes are looking, as well as the newbies.

Lord knows, I've done a fair amount of "school teaching". :)
