lots of shotgunning

LOL, well, looks like you finally figured it out. :D

In all my years, I've never shot formal skeet. Shot country doubles with our club, shot in a field off the trap, that's about it. Most of my shotgunning is of feathered targets. If we had a skeet/trap club around that was reasonable priced, I might could get into it. I like that country doubles stuff, pretty challenging. We do it because it's easy to set up. The club just has a couple of portable traps, no block houses or anything like that.

Something I'd really like to try is sporting clays. There are some ranges around Houston where you can shoot rounds of sporting clays pretty reasonably priced.

Depends on the local market and where you shoot, who loads the clays, runs the traps, etc. At my club we pay $2 for 25. But we (the shooters) shovel off the pads in winter, we clean up, we maintain the machines, we load the machines, open and close the houses, take turns buying the clays, etc. If we had to pay someone to do any of those things, the price would be higher. Another club who hires things done charges $4 for 25, and then there is the tip for the puller, so make it $6 for 25. Pretty close to what you are paying.

I just got back from my first time shooting clays today.

I was doing good at first but began to get a little too confident.

Keep your head down, watch the bird not the bead on the end of the barrel, and don't stop your swing. Breaking 20 before the week is out at the rate you're going.:)
