I recently decided to take the Steiner P4Xi off of my duty rifle and go back to a red dot/holo sight. In this case an EOTech EXPS2.0. I had been contemplating selling the Steiner but then decided to try it out on my A4 iron sights build. Since I recently built an irons only rifle, I could keep the Steiner in circulation and keep an iron sighted rifle around. I like to shoot irons so I need to keep a rifle as such.

Ive already shot this rifle out to decent range, 600ish yards, with the irons. SO we'll see how she does with a 1-4x scope. The barrel is a FN contract overrun milspec M16A4 barrel and has been a pretty reliable shot sub 3 MOA shooter with 55 grain ball with iron sights. I'll have to try it again with the optic to see how it does.

After I get my AR9 build I'm working on sorted out (Just need a barrel, or someone to cut and thread my current one) I'm starting on a fixed carry handle build like yours.

Those fixed carry handle uppers got hard to find and expensive didn't they?

Looks like a decent way to go. I keep irons on my A4gery for my shooting enjoyment. I’ve only been able to go to 200 yards though. That said, should maximum effectiveness and range be called for, a magnified optic isn’t out of the question. I think I would like some sort of fixed prism at 3x to 4x, but LPVO works too. I haven’t chronographed it but I’d like to know what my Mock 262 home load does from the 20” barrel.

There are still a few places making them. Mine is a Fulton Armory. I bought the upper stripped and built it so the price wasnt bad. Their complete uppers are pretty expensive.

I've got a buddy with a line on some used LEO-trade in stripped Colt A2 uppers that he thinks he can snag for $100/ea.

Still deciding on the exact build details. Thinking maybe a 16" disapator with A2 furniture. Maybe a Colt Commando pistol build. So many good options.

But a couple and do both!

My buddy has one with the charging handle in the carry handle. That might be an A1 now that I think about it. Love some iron sights on that 20” barrel. I wonder if a 77 grain SMK could break 2850 out of one? Totally makes an optic worth it if so.

I'll have to see how many he ultimately picks up. But I've got more ideas for fixed carry handle builds, than the budget to build them.

I've got flat tops with various modern optics on them for just about any situation, but I like the old school builds.

I've got a 1-6x Vortex on my "general purpose" carbine. I think I'm gonna pull it off though and replace it with an ACOG like I used to run. I've just never warmed up to LPVO's for some reason. Objectively they work great, but I just don't enjoy them terribly much for some reason. I'm eyeing the Primary Arms 3x prism scopes too, they look pretty nice actually.
