I took my brother in law out to the range today to sight in some cool builds he recently finished. He is a former Marine Infantryman and while he can shoot a rifle well, he has never shot past 500 yards.
His builds are a Mk12 clone and a semi clone of an old M40. The Mk12 is really cool and he even went as far as to have a custom lower made with the correct markings. The AE can recently came out of NFA jail and works wonderfully.

The M40 build isnt a clone but is still a really cool rifle. The barreled action is from a 700P chambered in 223. The stock is a reproduction of the original M40 stock. The scope is the correct Redfield 3x9 but it doesnt have the correct reticle (no rangefinder).
His original plan was to either change it to a 308 or get a new barreled action all together. But he's already set up for 223 reloading and has a lot of components so I told him lets give it a try. That rifle is awesome. It makes me want to build a 223 target rifle of my own.

He also brought out his 9 inch 300 Blk build. I was surprised how easily i could hit a 300 yard silhouette with that using 110 grain bullets and an EOTech.

All in all the day was awesome. The Mk12 is stupid easy out to 700 yards. We stretched it out to 1080 yards where it was a bit more difficult with the swirling wind up the valley. I gave him some trigger time on my AI which had no issues at 1080 yards.

I ran out of the normal bullet I use for the AI so I made up a load using 140 grain SMK over 41.5 grains of H4350 in Hornady brass. The rifle seems to like them.
