Title kind of says it all. Is it OK to use round-nosed lead bullets in a tubular magazine? I know FMJ and anything pointy is bad. I have a Marlin 1894C and one of the bullets I cast has a much better ballistic coefficient than the others but it has a round nose. Thanks.

I don't write gun-rag articles. I am not a gun expert. I do NOT use round-nosed bullets in my tubular-magazine lever-action rifles. YMMV, but I HAVE lived long enough to retire and receive Social Security payments, (and thank all of you non-retirees for your payments into the government ponzie scheme).

LRN bullets are standard fodder for tube-mag rifles. In fact, I can recall reading that soft LRN bullets are preferred over hardcast flat-nose bullets because the sharp 'shoulder' on the hardcast bullet had been shown to set off primers under certain circumstances.

Do a quick search of the Remington and Winchester factory fodder for 30-30 and such, and look at the bullet designs used. Here's an image of Hornady's standard 30-30 150 bullet:
