LTB 41 Mag For Hunting

I'm Looking to Pick Up a 41 Mag For Hunting WhiteTail Deer and as a Back up For Black Bear Hunting.
I am New To the Magnum Revolver and Didn't Know if the Taurus "Raging Bull" was any good.
I'm looking for 6" to 9" Barrel that can be scoped.
Also Not looking to break the bank...Even If I Had A Bank...

If you are set on a double action revolver and money is tight, the Taurus is a fine choice. Are they the worlds greatest revolver? No. Are they the worlds worst? No. Taurus has some QC issues but they will fix any issues that you may have with their products.

If you are not dead set on a double action, I would personally pick up a Ruger Blackhawk in .41. The Rugers tend to have better QC and they are ready and willing to repair any issues you may have with their products. They also have a faster turn around time when you ship firearms to them compared to Taurus.

The Rugers enjoy a wide array of aftermarket parts, upgrades and accessories as well.

I agree with Clifford, Check out Davidsons Gallery of Guns. You can get a Ruger Super Blackhawk in 41 mag and comes with Ruger scope rings to mount a scope or red dot.

Depending on your actual budget, and I know how that is, either would suit your needs.

I would not worry with anything longer than 7.5" in barrel length or right at it, as this will give you all the authority you need on shots out to 100yds with the 41.

As for scopes, well been there done that, and while some might find them a needed venture, with a revolver, nothing beats simple open sights and plenty of practice. IF you decide you need a scope, I HIGHLY suggest sticking with 2X or lower. Anything higher, IMO, will result in lost shot opportunities due to eye relief issues. Handgun scopes aren't quite as forgiving as rifle scopes. The higher the magnification, the harder they are to use in most hunting situations, unless your hunting form a fixed position with a solid rest.

If it were me, I would use the money your looking at spending on optics, on the best handgun you can find with adjustable, and replaceable sights. The one thing I hate about my Tarus Raging Bull is the non replaceable sights. I like to have options, and I REALLY don't like hunting with the broad balded type sights. But thats just me. Not that their bad, I just don't like them. With a Ruger Redhawk I can at least swap out the factory sights with different front and rear options if wanted or needed in some cases.

I have hunted with a Ruger BH in 41, a S&W 57 in 41 and a 10" bull Barrel Contender in 41. Your title asked about a LBT in 41, I'm going to assume you are talking about bullet style with the "LBT", right?? I like Cast Performance 250 and 255 gr. bullets for hunting, you can get them with or without gas checks. Those are the only bullets I have ever paid money for in 41. I cast 4 different Lyman bullet designs for my general use in 41, all of them are obsolete now. The 41 will do it all if you do your part. As a reference-I killed cow elk with a 44 magnum and with a 41; I can guarantee that those cows never knew the difference, both were one shot kills at less than 35 yards in the same area one year apart. You won't go wrong with a 41. There are no bad ones!!!!!!!

If you're not a reloader and cost is an issue, you may want to look for a .44 Mag. instead, because you can use .44 Special ammo at a somewhat reduced cost for practice or whatever. ALL .41 Mag. factory ammo is expensive.

But, I really like all my .41s, and would spend extra $ to get a nice one of your preference. I like the S&W 657 Classic Hunter types.

I have been wanting a 41 mag for a while now myself. My choices have been between a Ruger super blackhawk and the 8" Taurus raging bull. the bull will cost me less, but I actually think I prefer the Ruger. I may end up with both someday. good luck with your purchase, every thing I have ever heard about the 41's has been good.

When I read it I thought "Lead Bullet Technologies". It is the modern broad meplat design used by Cast Performance and several other companies. The design is superb as a hunting bullet.

In a ruger even the 44 mag or 45 colt should be on your watch list. I can't think of the last time i say a 41 mag at even close to a deal. nice caliber though

Cost of ammo is no more expensive for the .41 mag than it is for the .44 mag. The lone exception is the sole 210gr JSP offering from Remington. Here are but a couple of examples. The only issue is that the .41 mag is not as common as the .44 mag that is all. Even component bullets for the .41 are cheaper than both the .44 and the .45.

I have shot both .41 and .44 magnums through DA/SA/AUTO pistols also rifles and carbines. I have found that in my hands the .41 is more accurrate consistantly. I am not recoil shy so don't accuse me of that issue. My carry wheelgun is a md.58 customized by C&S with a 57 3 1/2 inch barrell. I'm disabled now and cannot hunt so I am culling my hunting guns One is a ruger redhawk with a 2x scope. Too bad you don't live in Tn.

I use a 9.5" SRH in 480 Ruger w/ 2x Leupold as a primary gun hunting. If I had it to do over again, I would get the 7.5" version. That should tell you something about barrel length.

The 8 3/8' M57 is a great gun for hunting medium size game. I puchased it for hunting. It was my first 41 mag, but hated the idea of having it drilled for a scope as a result the SRH came into my life. I also like the added power of the 480 Ruger. The added power isn't necessary for deer, but cerainly would make me more confident for black bear hunting.

Generally speaking, you are fine with about a 5.5-6" or longer barreled revolver for hunting. A 4" M57 or short barreled single action makes a good side arm while hunting if you want a secondary gun.

Much cheaper to get a Ruger Blackhawk in 41 mag for hunting. You'll be shooting single action regardless.
