i picked up a 41 mag in SS, 3 " bbl and mod # 657. i looked into this and i believe it is # 41 of 5490 made in 1986. the sn is ANE3XXX. anyone shed a bit of light on this?

thanks in advance.

What would you like to know? I've got one and it shoots like a million bucks. Shoot your gun and have fun.

would this gun be better as a safe queen to protect value or run the beans out of it? it being #41 of 5490 make it a collector or just a hell of a gun to shoot?

It sounds like it could be a Lew Horton edition. I had a chance to buy one when they were released and I did not but a friend did. He calls it "Thumper". Fire it and you'll understand why. Keep your thumb away from the cylinder release when firing it. Does it have an unluted or fluted cylinder? It is the absolute BEST 3 in. N frame a person can carry. I wouldn't call it a collector piece but they are farely rare. With the proper handloads it will do anything you need. I have been handloading for that caliber since the 1980s. It is still my favorite cartidge. If you can handload for it you will not find anything better. Good luck on finding any ammo in a store.

no idea on the cylnder. i hope to find ammo local. i can reload it when i get the dies and projectiles, primers. i got 6 rounds with it, it feels great in my hands but i primarly use artos and now getting into revolvers more. had a 357 mag, loved it but money got tight so it got a new owner.:( i miss it. hope to love this gun as i did my 357. it is stainless and i planned to make it my boat gun but after some thought i think i will continue to carry my pt740 (.40) for that job.
