A co-workers son serving in Iraq was involved in a "skirmish" on the 29th of Aug. Little was known about the incident until today when I got an email with the details. The whole incident report written by the commander of 'A' Company, 244th Engineer Battalion is about three pages long, I'll only post one paragraph that deals with the co-workers boy. This kid must have had some kind of good luck charm in his pocket.

..."At about the same time, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) impacted the second vehicle (M916 heavy hauler) in the windshield left of center just below the roof. The round was lodged in between the windshield and the roof briefly before breaking free, striking SGT Wethington on his kevlar helmet, and passing through the roof of the vehicle and exploding. Miraculously, the round did not explode until it exited the vehicle. SGT Wethington received small lacerations from shattered glass, and had some glass fragments in his eye, though he did not realize it until later. SPC Wynants returned fire with his M16A2 rifle as SGT Wethington continued to drive. SPC Wynants was unharmed."

The incident resulted in one fatality, Sgt Wethington returned to duty.
