60 grains with the 240 grain slug is about the limit on recoil, for me, in order to still make an accurate shot. But I like the power, it must equal a good .357 load at least. 50 grains with a ball is no slouch, 70 grains and that ball really gets moving. !!!! :) But again, don't shoot those loads on a regular basis.
Have you chronoed that load?

No not yet, but I need to do that, as I think it does equal a .357. Guess I better get on it. I'm never eager to chronograph BP loads, as I need to get further back to get accurate readings. That of course increases my chances of killing the chronograph!

I killed one with the overpowder wad once… F1 Chrony. And they were kind enough to replace it,

Yeah, one of my brothers wanted me to chrono his little tiny inaccurate .32ACP pistol. Didn't let him shoot it, because I was afraid he'd shoot the chrono...so I shot it (the gun and the chronograph) instead. Why he needed to know the FPS of a little .32 I don't know. Could have looked it up, plus it don't matter!! Wish I had let him do it, then made him buy me a new one!

And anyone could have told you how that would go! Anyone with a chronograph anyway. The folks at chrony were aces. I told her what happened and she said it happens more than you think. Suggested putting a small cardboard shield in front of the display to protect from errant wads. And they repaired mine for free.

these days the goodie’s are protected better and I guess the display is probably a phone. But my F1 is still going strong.

I put some 60gr Pyrodex P .53 225gr round ball loads through the chronograph & 5 shot average was 1,024 fps.

That's decent. Using the .357 as a comparison, I'm not sure you can get much over 1,000fps with a 200 grain bullet from a pistol. So I think, don't know, not sure, but I think the single shot pistols/Plains Pistol will pack more punch than a .357, with a heavy load. And really can't throw much more than a 200 from a .357, whereas the .54 throws a 225 grain ball, and my .50" shoots the 240 grain "PA Conical" accurately. Okay, got to get the chrono out.

Yes, the replacement I got has the remote display. And I'm more careful about setting up. That little .32 I nailed the Chrony with, I didn't take a practice shot with it first. I just thought I couldn't miss. Too good of a shot you know. !!!

Pride/fall. Seems I read something about that once! Not applicable to me you unnerstand…
