I bought this Lyman mustang a breakdown 50 cal. inline for two reasons. Number 1 The gun looks soo goood. secondly they corrected the ramrod problems that the NEF had. The Mustang is hammerless so it will take some time to get use to it. Last week I shot minnie balls through it and was not to empressed with the grouping. Tomorrow I'll try the Lee maxie balls. It is a easy gun to clean.

I read one other user's review of it and he didn't consider it a tackdriver either. But you know what, a rifle doesn't need to be a tackdriver to be enjoyable to shoot. And eventually, you should run across a load that will perform admirably enough.
Some guns are just a pleasure to hold, carry and shoot with intrinsic qualities that just can't be quantified.
If the rifle fits and balances well, that alone can often more than make up for a lack of MOA shooting accuracy. That's what I define as being a gun's "shootabilty factor".
To me, a gun that is shootable is more desirable than a super accurate one that isn't as shootable.
Whether it's the barrel bedding or the load, the trigger or the sights, it really doesn't matter. As a matter of fact, sometimes the worse a gun shoots, the more like an original hand made antique muzzle loading rifle it usually is! ;)
Reminds me of the Remington Model 12 pump action .22's. Some of them might not be the most accurate .22 pump guns, but they're classic and they work, so they're still very enjoyable to shoot! I'll just concentrate on shooting them at closer range targets, that's all.
Just keep experimenting until you find the most respectable performing load.
Don't you just love it that much more now? :D

I might not have been fair to the gun. Not only did I try out a new gun I also tried out a new bullet that I poured. I ran some minieballs and was anxious to try them and the new gun out. If I'd been lucky it would have grouped but as it is with my luck when ever I skip to the answer I want I don't get it.
