Lyman Greatplains rifle

I have a Lyman Greatplains 50 cal caplock and really like it. I use it for deer hunting and my Navy Arms 58 cal for elk hunting. I have peep sights on both of them as my older eyes can't focus on iron sights too well.
See my photo of the 85 yard target, using TC 350 gr maxi hunter slugs in this round ball barrel(1:60" twist). This target is on another post I made before. The lighter 275 maxi hunter slugs don't group. The 350 gr slugs group nicely, but off to the right about a foot, compared to the RB. The peep sight had enough adjust, so that's what I hunt with.
I got this rifle used from the local paper. It's one of the early production rifles and was listed as a 54 cal. When I got there and looked it over, discovered it to be a 50 cal. The guy let me have it dirt cheap and it came with Lyman target sights, front and rear. They cost more than what I paid for the used rifle. It shoots way better than I can... My hunting partner has a Lyman Great Plains in 54 cal and seems to never miss with 70 gr of 3FFF and a patched RB. That's why I wanted one.
I've used it three years hunting mule deer near Hood River, Oregon but haven't got any deer with it. They seem to be hearded in big groups and many eyes watching. That's another story.
I did get a cow elk in Nov 06 (McKenzie unit) with my 58 Navy Arms and 120 gr of 3FFF behind a Lyman 577611 minnie ball. It only went a short way and piled up.
