Hey there. I like the price on the M24/47s from Samco and I always liked those look-through-the-ring style sights that Lyman makes on a mauser (very classy looking hunting/target rifle IMHO)... will the two mate together happily?

If so, all I need is a classic stock and I'll be prepared to shoot at boar whilest looking like a proper englishman.

Mods?

Thanks Stalkingbear,

Does installing a Lyman or Williams sight require mods on an M24/47? I am guessing that somewhere a hole has to be drilled to accept the sight... is this exactly the same as it would be if I got a K98? I hear pretty good things about the 24/47s and I dig the prices... I cannot find a K98 for less than $300+ that's in any kind of good condition. So I'm driven towards the Yugo.

However, I really want to shoot it with a nice adjustable peep sight.

I'm curious if the Williams sight for the 98 will fit the yugo 24/47's also.

I'll probably have to email them to find out.

Mojo Sights (predictably, www.mojosights.com) offers peep sights that replace the rear sight and use the standard front sight for most (all?) mausers. They may not be quite as fast and accurate as a peep positioned at the "proper" distance (back near the stripper clip guide), but they are a darned sight better (hah!) than the standard rear-notch sights on milsurps, they do NOT require any modification of the rifle (just swap the OEM rear sight back on and your gun is returned to milsurp purity), and they blend in pretty well when installed.

If you are going to do any kind of target shooting, get the Lyman 57 sight. If you plan to just set the sight and forget it, the Williams is ok. The Lyman sight is made of steel and is much easier to adjust where the Williams is a bit more cumbersome to adjust and its body is made of aluminum which isn't good for longevity when things are screwed into it.

I have Mojo sights on my 24/47 they are nice. I have Williams F.P. micrometer sights with front fire sights on my Winchester 94 you can't even compare them the Williams sights are that much better. They are quick and easy to see.

Thanks!

Okay, I pretty much know what I'm gonna do. I'll spring for the good williams sights or the Lyman 57s. No one ever mentioned if I'll have to drill my rifle. Let me re-ask the question in a more useful way. Is the installation of a good Lyman or Williams the sort of thing I can do myself or will I need to pay a gunsmith to do it? Does the sight fit into an existing hole or something (like the sidesaddle scope mout I bought for my Mossberg 500)?

Thanks a ton for the info so far.
