I have an Inland M-1 carbine and after firing a few rounds the rear sight drifts off to the right. I re-centered it and put some close tolerance lock tight in the dovetail. Still shifts. Thinking about removing it and cleaning it up and lock tight it again. Any one else have a similar situation?

They are supposed to be staked on with a heavy center-punch mark.

Look and find it, then re-stake it.

M-1 carbine sight

Thank You for the information. I believe I got it. Won't know for sure until I fire it again. It appears the sight isn't the one originally staked to this gun as the marks don't line up when the sight is centered. I'll see if it works.

Could be the sight was removed to refinish the gun, and the sight re-installed without staking it. I have a 1943 IBM mahufactured carbine and the right sight was staked with gusto. I put a scope on it using the dovetail slot, later switched back to the iron sights. getting the peep sight reanchored involved peening the slot, locktighting the base and re-staking with a punch.

Thanks Carl, actually my gun had a scope mount on it when I got it but it also came with the aperture sight so I re-installed it. I have since centered the sight noticing the two stake points do not align perfectly so I punched them where they were. If I still have an issue I will incorporate your methods as well. Regards, Darrin.
