Most certainly.
.308" bullets is .308" bullets.

Danish surplus 30-06 used a 147 bullet that is very similar to that one.

The only problem you might have using 7.62 NATA M80 bullets in a Garand 30-06 is the crimp cannelure may make them end up a scooch short.

Thanks RC, but can anyone confirm for sure whether these .308 bullets will work in a .30-06SPFG M-1 Garand? Thanks.

I think I got the attachment to stick, if not pm me and I'll send it to you.

The first is to show you the difference in where the cannelure is located on a standard LC 147gr M80 (metallic) vs a new manufacture 145gr M80 (non metallic). I stocked up on the new bullet but never bought the Garand, probably never will. If you are interested PM me, maybe we can work something out. I've got 2 bags of 500 ea. I'll probably put them on GB for this weekend if I don't hear from you in the next day or so.:D

On a side note, Hornady changed the location of the cannelure on their 150gr FMJ bullets about 2yrs ago. The cannelure seats proper for the M1a and AR10 but not the Garand. Why they made the change with no notification I have no clue. Or maybe they did and I missed it.

I for one load for my Garands and my 308 Win.'s(700,660,M1A1) with the
M80 147 Gr. FMJBT's never an issue. Been doing it for the past 6 years. What ever I can get on sale. I use them for plinking, don't shoot matches my eye's are not as good as they used to be. Mostly 100 Yards to Max 300 yards open sights. 43 Gr. IMR 4895 for the 7.62 x 51 Nato's and 48 Gr. for the M2 Ball.

Can M-80 ball bullets (147grain .308) bullets be used in M-1 reloads?

Don't worry about the cannulure. Just seat the things LT 3.300" so they will clear the magazine well.

Garand loads are not hot loads. They did not exceed 50,000 psia, many were in the lower 40K region.

Try loading those with 46-47 grains IMR 4895 and keep the velocities less than or equal to 2700 fps.

GI ball in my Garands clocks 2650 fps.

I'll add my "ditto" to USSR and SlamFire1. Use 'em all time. No problems with my M1's. I load them just a hair under what Hornaday lists for 150 gr FMJ. I load using H 4895 so I'm typically 45-46 grains.

The one on the right looks very close to Hornady's long bearing surface 150gr. pill. Which I prefer for my .30 Cal. @ 3.300" AOL. Federal's American Eagle ammo uses this Horn. bullet seated to the crimp grove. Looks silly next to a M2 Ball cartridge.
