Has anybody used or experimented with an M-4 variant carbine and the use of Ghost Ring Sights (GRS).

If so, what were the results of your tests?

Are the GRS faster for target acquisition than regular sights for an M-4 or not?

Is there any change in the accuracy of the carbine?

Would you recommend them for CQB tactical type shooting/training or not?

Thanks for any input.

I'm not sure what you mean - the standard sights on the M4 are considered Ghost-ring sights. Can you post a link or picture of the sights you have in mind?

If Im correct I think hes talking about the sights with the glow in the dark dots, similar to pistol night sights.

When I was in the Army I was in MEDDAC/CSH/MEDLOG units and all we had were M-16a2s, no optics. So when I had field time and actually got to handle a weapon, there were problems with night fighting. At any rate, what worked ok for us was to use the larger, 'area target' aperture for close in work and night work. Takes some practice to get much more accurate than short range, but it at least gives you some sort of sight to work with. At least for me, the normal aperture was far to hard to see through in the dark.

Maybe you all already know this or even know better ways, but us folks who were in the rear were always at the bottom of the pile for gear and training. Learned that real good at JRTC.

Anywho, that's just my little story. Plenty of folks on here know waaay more about this stuff than I.

Even though they are essentially the same, I've understood that the ghost ring aperture is much larger in diameter than the aperture of standard peep sights.

That said, I think the 200 yard aperture of the standard A2 sight is perfectly fine for CQB.

This is what I am looking at for a ghost ring sight:

You have small peep sights, large peep sights and then you have ghost ring sights. Some people look at the large peep sights like ghost ring sights but they really are different.

I am particualarly interested in the .230 aperature sight which is in the center of the three sights on display slightly below the opening photos. since I have never tested or tried out such sights I was wondering if somebody in this forum might have used them and could report back to us.

IIRC, the 0-200m aperture on an A2 sight is about 0.200 in diameter.

I'll leave it to you all to discuss amongst yourselves whether that does or does not constitute a "ghost ring" right and whether or not it would appreciably increase your times.

Looked through my old smart book to be sure of myself, and while I'm still referring to the larger aperture, I think my terms are wrong. Chalk it up to either bad memory(been a few years), lack of training(we certaly didn't do at of weapons work), or both.
At any rate, the larger one worked for us, and I don't think it's all that smaller than the GRS you're looking at buying.
