M&P 45 vs 45c vs Glock 26&19
I currently have a 26 and a 19 that I carry. I held a friends M&P 45 yesterday and wow. I have always had a love hate relationship with my Glocks but this gun just felt right. I dont want this to be a Glock vs M&P thread. The reason I mention my Glocks is to get an idea of how they compare size wise. I am trying to decide between a 45 and a 45 compact. I have smaller hands and I carry AIWB. I find the length of the grip the issue for concealability and the length of barrel the issue for comfort. If anyone has a 45 and a 45c which do you prefer is there benefits or pros and cons one way or the other. IF you also have a Glock how do the M&P's fit in sizewise in with the 26 and 19. Capacity isnt a big issue for me I am normally comfortable with a 5 shot j frame and a reload would be easy to carry. What are your thoughts on the M&P 45's

They're roughly equivalent to the 17/19 size wise. One thing to watch out for on the M&P 45c is that almost nobody makes a holster for them. They're longer than the 9mm & .40 compacts. It's essentially the difference between a full sized 1911 and a commander as far as the size difference between the 45 and the 45c.

Having said that, my M&P 45c is fantastic. Great accuracy and fits the hand great.

Given the choice between the two.... I'd probably still stick with the 45c, just because the size and round count isn't that big of a difference but it carries much better than a full sized gun.

I held a fullsize and a 9 compact at lunch. I know that compact 45 is a little different sizewise. What I found was it seemed the fullsize is about the size of my 19 and the compact was about the size of my 26. I carry appendix carry so there are times where my 26 is carried and my 19 left at home. What further complicates it is I have a friend who will sell me his fullsize for $450 and throw in a box of ammo. I dont know what I can buy a new 45c for but I also dont want that to be my focus. I know if I buy one and Im not convinced then I will always wonder what if. ARGH The easy thing to do would be buy both. Im selling my 19 to fund the M&P I cant afford both.

The M&P 45c is close in size to the 9mm M&P, the only noticeable difference is that the 45c has a slightly shorter grip. If I'm not mistaken the 45c will usually fit in holsters that are for the fullsize 9mm/40. I would seek verification of that as this is only what I've read. As one would expect the 45 FS is softer shooting and is more pleasant to shoot, while the compact makes for a better carry gun.

I just got a new 45c last month for 489 + tax.

FYI, if you are interested, there are three sizes of M&P .45.

The full size has a 4.5" barrel. The mid-size has the same grip size and a 4" barrel. The "C" has the same 4 barrel, but a shorter grip.

I would think holsters for the mid-size and compact would be the same. You may have problems finding them at the local gun store, but I would guess any holster maker with a website could make you a holster for any size M&P.

Guess I should have done a little more research wow
I guess Im trying to decide between the midsize and the compact that really makes it hard. Other than the the I like about my 26 over my 19 is the shorter grip doesnt print

I used to own 2 Glocks... I now own 5 M&P's... End of story...

My Oldest son used to own 2 Glocks... He now owns 2 M&P's... End of his story...

My youngest son skipped Glocks altogether and moved straight to an M&P... His story continues once his deployment ends...

My favorite M&P is also my newest.

In answer to your grip size question. I prefer the full-size models. Although I own one M&P9c, I almost never carry it. My preferred carry is the M&P40 Pro Series (4.25" barrel), in a CCC Looper IWB holster. I have never had an issue with printing through my clothing, but then again I have never cared if I printed.

I carry am M&P 40 FS IWB with a Crossbreed supertuck, it has been a very reliable weapon. With the holster I have very comfortable and the grip is nice. it comes with 3 grips so you can easily interchange them to find the one that fits you best. Just a nice weapon for the price.

Now I have the ambidextrous safety model, in hindsight, I wish I had gone without it. I would LOVE to get a crimson trace lasergrip for it but they won't work with the safety.

You could cut off the right side of the safety. Easy to do and wont impact the reliability of the safety.

Barrel length is a wash in that case, so recoil, sight length and bullet performance will be quite similar.

I guess I could ask these questions.

Will you be carrying it? (the compact is superior here)

Is capacity a major concern? (since you have carried a J frame I'm guessing no)

So with that said I think the .45C is a excellent match for you. The magazines can have a pinky extension or flat base so that isn't much concern.

Yes I carry daily. I know this will replace my 19. I also have a 26 and a 3913 both are carried in rotation. The 642 isn't carried much. I figure the 45 may replace most of the others. I really don't own a fullsize and can get a pretty good deal. Just trying to figure out what matters. I feel the 45_ would replace more of them. Then again even though its for defence I would like to b able to put big holes close together and where i want them.
