i know i know i m scum for considering the overpriced, "we dont need you civilian sales" bad service Hk, but it felels so good in hand and shoots even better.....can anyone impart some words of wisedom and experience with wither of these two fine pieces please....i own a m&p 9c (love it) and am patiently awaiting the m&p 9L to come out....so thought id mix it up a bit and see if the HK is worth the extra bucks over the HK..what say you...

Why not? Give it a try. If you decide that you don't like it, all you will lose is money.

I personally would opt for either the more useful HK45C or the M&P45C, but the fullsize versions are nice as well.

It really comes down to whether you want a striker or a hammer. I personally like strikers. Only hammers I like are BHPs and 1911s.

I have the HK45C and I really like this gun. Fits my smallish hand very well; the recoil is very manageable for me with the gun returning to original sight picture very consistently, easy to clean, completely reliable, accurate without comparison for an out-of-box gun. I also have the P30 and the P2000 V3 in 9mm plus several other HK pistols. Who said Customer Service was bad?? I have had a lot of great experiences with HK Customer Service and I have found them to be very professional and service oriented as well as very knowledgeable and effecient. Go to HKPro.com and read what many, many others have to say about HK CS as well as read many reviews of the HK series.

the hk45 is the only stock autoloader that its "ok" to shoot 45 supers in

sounds like HK it is. will take a look at the 45compact as well but not really planning on carrying it ( ihave my mp9c and my pistol dynamics 1911 commander that i carry, though you never know...does the reliabilty issue perceived /experienced in under 4.25in barrell 1911's carry over to the polymer guns?...

As a matter of fact, I like both firearms; the new H&K 45, and the also new
Smith & Wesson M&P 45. The difference in price may be the M&P's strong
point; with of course, everything else being close to equal. The M&P being
less expensive, and striker fired will see more involvement in LEO circles as
a whole; especially in departments with a budget, that furnish each officer
with their sidearm. On the other side, individual officers spending their very
own hard earned cash may want too opt for the new H&K Variant 1; so it
can be carried in condition 1 "Cocked & Locked". Either way, either weapon
is not a bad choice~! :scrutiny: ;) :D

When you're deciding between an H&K vs. S&W...you're in the enviable position of picking your personal MVP from an All-Star Team. Sure, there are folks who'll argue their OWN pick; 1911, GLOCK, et. all... but you'll not stub your toe either way you decide. Me? I like the M&P.

I don't own a HK45, but I do own and shoot the precursor to it, the USP45. I can say that I genuinely enjoy shooting the USP a whole lot more than the M&P, but the M&P definitely is a solid gun and good shooter. They both have their niche, so I guess it just depends on what you are expecting the gun to do.

For serious cocked and locked carry, you probably want variant 9 (or 10 for a lefty) whcih leave out the decocker. Under stress, its not too hard to remove the safety with too much vigor and end up decocking the piece.
