I've been waiting around for S&W to restock their magazines. They're still not up to speed. but most strangely is that their web site doesn't even show the 17 round magazine any more. Everything is 7-10 rounds.

Are they restricted from "hi cap" mag prodution, or what?

No, but all of the 17 round magazines that they receive from Mecgar either go into boxes of new pistols or to LE. They just are not able to provide enough to sell separately of firearms.

S&W has to do something about this, rather soon.

Glock mags are readily available. While I prefer the M&P, if the mag situation doesn't improve soon, I'd have to recommend people get a Glock instead unless they will be happy with only two magazines.

I found one at an out of the way gun store, for $50 which after 6 months of searching was a good reward. Hahaha some times I think I should have went with glock! Hahaha on a more serious note I contacted S&W and the said they are still filling orders from January.

I bought an M&P9 in January because I saw a good price. But after owning it for a little while and not being able to find spare mags for anything close to reasonable I gave up and traded it for a Ruger SR9.

I like the SR9 just as much (well, the grip on the M&P9 is a little better) and Ruger sells mags for 44.99$ thru their Shopruger.com website. That is a little steep, but after you cash in the coupon that comes with a new SR9, they arent too bad. Hell of a lot better than 90$+ for a single M&P9 mag :cuss:

I feel very smart to have gotten 3 extras when I bought my M&P9 about a year ago! They seemed pricey, but not having enough mags is a bad situation.

Nice thing about Glock, I have 4 17 round mags and they are readily available for about 29 bucks. 33 round for 49.99. I have every intention of getting a S&W M&P shield in 9mm, hopefully this will clear up by the time I buy!

Shield mags are easy to find. It is the full size 9mm mags that are mythical.

It's a sweet gun, mine came with 3 17's and night sights. I put the apex RAM in and the reset is now a little more tolerable. I use it for IDPA and three gun which require 3 but I'd like to have 5. Keep searching you can find em I found one the other day as I posted earlier and $50 was a little more than I would have liked to spend but S&W sells them for $41.99. Glad I went with the m&p over the G19 even if mags are not available or just a few dollars more than the glock mags. The ergos were just better for me than the glock.

Its all the M&P mags greater than 10 rounds capacity that are out of stock everywhere or absurdly priced ($99 at a gun show :( ).

Well it's just a good thing the gun came new with two. Actually if my wife chooses not to carry hers, I have four.:)

I got a Midway alert yesterday for mags.
Clicked on it.
SURPRISE!!!!!
Out of stock.:(

Dammit.

They were just "back in stock", and I've got 2 on the way. I read on a forum yesterday that Midway had a bunch, but was limiting to 2 and only listing a few at a time to try and allow more folks to get them.

I wondered what was up, because I kept renewing my alert, and got 3 separate notifications yesterday that they were in stock. I just happened to be on their site today when they popped back in.

It's kind of like the lottery, but it sure beats 44mag and their $90 ones. I've now got the original 2 that came with my 5" pro and 5 spares, so the hunt is over for now.

I had the best luck with Midway and setting a auto notifier. The second I get a email I make the purchase the using my phone.

I was considering a new M&P-9 versus a Glock 17. I think this thread just made up my mind.

If S&W can't support a popular pistol line with something as critical and simple as magazines (even in this climate) for a reasonable price, I'm out.

Heck, I can even find mags easily for Walthers these days for ~$25.

A valid concern honestly, and that's coming from an M&P owner. You'll also have better luck finding holsters too...
