Which one would you go with for IDPA/USPSA. I recently found a club near me and I am going to start shooting with them.

I currently carry a Glock 19 and was about to buy a Glock 34 when I came across some good stuff about the M&P Pro 9mm. I had a M&P 9mm compact at one time so I familiar with them and like them. OTOH I like the 19 alot as well and prefer its simplicity. Then Ive had other guys tell me to just get a Glock 17. :fire:

What do you think?

I like shooting my M&P more then my glock simply because of the ergos. I however am just as accurate with both. I voted M&P

Use your G-19 for awhile then decide.

It's never a bad idea to become a better shot with your carry gun.

I say Glock 34 because I've heard M&Ps have some extraction issues that need to be worked out.

If you reload I'd suggest a Glock 35 because its more flexible and you'll be able to shoot in Limited with a couple cheap mods.

I do reload, but do not care for the .40 so much.

Belus that is the kind of feedback I have been looking for. I haven't heard yet that the M&P has extraction issues. Ill look into it further.

I said 34, because you'll be able to use the magazines with your 19 if you feel like it, and I want one or a 35.

Also the Glocks are so easy to do modifications on.

I use the G34 for IDPA SSP, and USPSA Production, it is the best shooting 9mm I own. Magazines are tough and affordable, only thing that needs changed are the sights, Novak or Dawson Precision are good choices, I prefer the DPs. Where I shoot I see a lot of 1911s, alot of G17s and G34s not many XDs or M&Ps.

Shoot your G19 until you are sure you will like and stay with the sport.

I voted G34 because I think that is the best way to go for somebody asking a bunch of strangers on the Internet. My personal IDPA SSP is a tuned Plastic M&P (bought before the Pro came out) because its grip angle is close to the 1911 I have shot for so long. But there is a cottage industry supporting Glock with more parts, accessories, and knowhow than for S&W (or XD, the other comparable gun.)

If you handload, it would pay to look into a G35 so you could load .40s to Major and enter Limited or L-10; or load them light for Production and IDPA.

Strangers, there are no strangers here. We're all friends. :)

Also I have been thinking about it some since last night and maybe a 35 would not be that bad of an idea. I could get a lone wolf conversion barrel, new springs and some G17 mags and shoot 9mm, then If i decided I could always get into the .40 with a few simple change outs. I do reload for 10mm now so Ill have the bullets. Hmmm, the possibilities are endless.

A G34 is ready for either from the get-go.

Look at the stats. This is the one used most often. Lots of parts, lots of support, history of success.

M&P Pro or 34

The only reason I picked the 34 was because of the aftermarket stuff out there. You can find just about anything for the 34 ,right now ,but may have to wait a while for the M&P suppliers get to going.

You can look at some of my previous posts to see that I am a big fan of the Glock, but after shooting an M&P for the first time a couple of months ago, M&P all the way. it just feels better in the hand to me.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Well, I just found a good deal from a fellow Texan so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Glock 35 with night sights -$430, not to bad.

Add a lone wolf 40-9 conversion barrel for $100 and a couple of G-17 mags and Im good to go.

Thanks for the replies.

The M&P Pro's ergos and trigger win it here. I was a die-hard Glock guy for the longest and really love them... But, once you feel an M&P with a good trigger job (even the standard M&P or "L") you'll switch, out-of-the-box their triggers are so-so, with a little work they can break like a 1911 and reset like a Glock, Glock's can't do that, it's either a lil' mushy and heavy, or real mushy and light depending on the connector you use...
Plus, the current M&P has all the bugs worked out and already does all the things the yet to be released new Gen 4 Glock plans to.

I recommend the M&P which I shoot in action shooting practice. No extraction issues so far.

However our range master calls the Glock 34 'the Cadillac of Glocks' and is a Glock armourer. It may serve you well also, altho I dont find the Glocks nearly as naturally fitting my hand to shoot.

As for the G34....I kept accidentally hitting the mag release and dropping the mag. It hadnt happened to me on any other Glock or handgun. If the mag releases on the G34s are that light or poorly placed, I'd say they wouldnt make a good gun for action shooting.

i use to shoot a 34 in IDPA, untill i got my Loaded 9mm. 34 is a great gun and tons of people use them

Hang on Blay!

A G35 with a conversion barrel is NOT legal in IDPA, nor in any Division of USPSA except "Open".

I'd go with the G17. With a G34, you get adjustable sights, extended mag release and slide lock, and 3/4" more barrel for $135. Not worth it. You'll change out the sights almost immediately, the extended slide lock causes more problems than it solves, and the mag release is $7 and legal in all divisions of both sports. The sight radius is NOT an issue in either sport--this ain't "Bullseye", you're trying to hit either an 8" circle or 6"x12" rectangle at 1-30 yards, with the predominant shot happening at about 10.

Re-think it--put that $135 into ammo, mags, and Burkett DVDs. You'll be happier, and a better shooter.

Dan

I run a G35 but I see lots of guys with the S&W and G17 also. I think any one of them will be great. I prefer a longer sight radius.

I could be wrong but I am under the impression that the Glock 35 with conversion barrel would be legal for ESP.

Congrats on what sounds like a great deal.

This forum has tons of information on light loads for .40 minor. Some claim it can be made softer than 9mm.

I picked up new gun for USPSA Limited last night (too cheap to pass up) and will have to start reloading 40. I plan to shooting something resembling 180gr Precision Bullets in front of 4.5gr of Solo 1000 at 1.135" for major PF. Need to work up to that load first to make sure its safe though. Should cost me about $130/thousand.

edit: And so I'm not accused of libel, this is where I heard of the extraction issues:
