this is my first m4 how many rounds per cleanin and what cycle on the break in? I bought a ****load of xm193 ball ammo which seams to be the prefered ammunition. Love the gun shot it in the dark tonight at dirt fired and cycled flawlessly.

break in periods are not mandatory unless your looking for the best hair-splitting accuracy from your rifle.

fire 5 shots, then run a lubed patch or bore snake down the barrel. Repeat this process several times.

If your barrel is chrome-lined (and I am almost certain it is), there is no break-in.

Just shoot it. :)

As for cleaning, an AR will run for a VERY long time without cleaning as long as it stays wet with lube.

I would thoroughly clean the barrel/chamber before you first shoot it to remove anything that may be in the barrel to start. From there honestly I would clean after 5 or 10 rounds then have at it.

Thanks for the info gents, I used these weapons extensively while in the Marine Corps but they werent my guns so I really did the required maint to keep it workin so it would keep me alive.

I know you're not required to do it for a chrome-lined barrel but I did it anyway and I don't regret it. Great accuracy on mine.
