Can someone walk me through all the differences between the standard M&P45 and the model designed for "Law Enforcement, Military, and Government"?

To my knowledge, there is no difference.

There are several options in the M&P Series.

- With or without internal locking system (commonly referred to as ILS)
- With or without magazine disconnect (stop the weapon from firing if magazine is not in the weapon
- M&P45, specifically, comes with or without a manual safety

But to my knowledge, these options are available to the public and law enforcement/military/gubment.

I don't know why Smith breaks them into seperate categories on their web site.

Maybe someone more informed will come along and either verify or discount my thoughts.

My understanding is that S&W stated that the version without the magazine disconnect would only be available to LE. They might even still be indicating that but it is definately not reality.

I purchased the 9mm without the mag disconnect from Bud's and I'm a private citizen.

I would guess that LE models would not have a mag disconnect or an internal lock, but those models (my 9C is one) are also available to the private citizen (in most states).

The mag disconnect, actually, is very popular with LE agencies. Many of them, mine included, mandate the presence of the disconnect.
