If i've researched correctly, the old 1905 bayonet was cut down to 10" at first for use on the Garand. However, the M1 Bayonet was soon made to replace it on the Garand, and was made at 10", not cut down from the longer, older 16" one. You can see the difference when compared side by side. Bayonets cut down from 16" have the blood groove go all the way to the tip of the blade, whereas those that were made 10" have the blood groove end before the tip. What I'm interested in are these original M1 10" ones, not the 1905 or the ones cut down from 1905 16" blades.
Although Cortland makes a good point in waiting to see what year my particular rifle will have been made in; while I did make a general serial number range request with my order, I best wait and see what I end up with. Edit: I'm leaning towards getting one (m1 bayonet) even if my rifle is post-wwii, like ktd, anachronistic or not I like the way the 1905 and M1 look better than the post-WW2 blades.
