M1 Carbine magazines?

I will soon be the proud new owner of a genuine USGI M1 Carbine. I was wondering though, where can I get genuine USGI mags for a genuine USGI gun?

And what's a good price to pay? I understand it all depends on condition but I need a ballpark if you can give me one.

Don't want to get ripped off, etc.! I'm actually excited about this, always wanted an M1 Carbine and now I'll have one.

15 rounders are the actual "GI" size. The ones J&G has appear to still be in the wrapper. Also check Sportsman's Guide and Cheaper Than Dirt. They usually have one type or another, but their stock comes and goes so you have to catch them at the right time.

If you find any 30 or 10 rounders they're new aftermarket mags. They may be just fine, but I've only used 15 round surplus mags and I don't plan on buying anything else.

the all metal 30 rnd are pretty nice. ive tried some plastic ones that werent the cats meow, but as far as reliability and durability goes, the metal 30 rnd'ers are on par. just thought id chime in and say that in case stories of faulty 30 rnd were what was keeping you from trying them.

No, I've never heard anything bad about them; I've just never known anyone that had actually used them. Thanks for the info.

Not necessarily true WRT to the 30s. There are USGI 30s. They were developed for the M2 (select fire) Carbine. However, even the GI 30s are not as reliable in general as the 15 round magazines.

I have four USGI M2 30 round mags that I bought new in wrapper a few years back for something like $15 each. I've used two of them, and both work just fine in my rifle.

I find US GI 15 rounders $10 to $15 at most gun shows often
in the original wrap. They are the most convenient size BTW.

I have used US GI 15 rounders and what apear to be original 30
round magazines without problems. I have a IBM 1943 manufacture
carbine, three 30s five 15s, an aftermarket 5, and a 5 and 10
I made from two spare 15s.

I did give up on an aftermarket 30 rounder: never could get it to feed.
Some after market 30 rounders are bad: soft steel, weak springs
and out-of-spec. I was looking at some 40 rounders at the last gun
show (obviously aftermarket) and the VENDOR told me they were fun
for p1inking cans at the dump, but they would not hold up. He had had
complaints. For his honesty, I bought a magazine for my Rumanian .22
from him.
