Here it is, in the white, the UltiMAK M1 Carbine scope mount:

...courtesy Lyle at UltiMAK.

I put an Aimpoint on it because that's what I had laying around at the time. We just got the prototype done today, and I can only see one very small change needing made. We've spec'd this out using a GM Inland and a Winchester (shown). We also have a new IMI on the way. So far so good. It fits rock solid.

As discussed previously here on THR... I am eager to 'modernize' the old lightweight M1 Carbine with a red-dot or holo for CQB work or outdoors squirrel patrol.

This looks like the ticket. Mounted forward, the scope will not be dinged by ejected brass... I wonder if it will work.

The M1 Carbine sights are too low to co-witness with the optic, but there are quick-detach mounts for nearly instant failover to iron sights...

...those squirrels can be pesky.

Beutiful Sven! How does it mount? Is it basically a replacement for the top HG? I wonder if you used some see through rings would you be able to use the irons?.....no wait i forgot the carbine has a depression in the middle for the sight line i'm sure your mount blocks off the line.

It replaces the handguard... I believe that, if you pop the scope off (ARMS makes such a removable mount) you can use the iron sights.

It replaces the handguard...

That makes it fine for reddots and close in stuff but probably wouldn't be secure enough for a scope.

Somewhat OT. Last weekend i shot a 2.24" 5 shot group at 100yds with my mutt carbine. I got to thinking about your quest and how i would like to try a scope on this puppy. My front sight is about 15" wide at 100yds making my center hold on a 3" bull somewhat problematic:rolleyes:

All's well...

As long as the increasingly collectible M1 Carbine can be returned to original configuration. (And nobody dares to compare it to a Steyr Scout) ;)

I think they're still in R&D phase on this piece.. never hurts to call, I suppose.

Dude: what part of OR are you in? I'm going to be at my fiancee's parents place in La Grande next month, I need to find a place to shoot.

I'm in Bend

...between Port-0-land and La Grande there is about a million or so acres of good shooting spots

give a buzz if you want to go out shooting this-a-way

A pistol scope or Red Dot works well on this mount I made but I believe I'll use a UltiMak when they come out.

Final product will be black, not 'in the white', as shown above.

Would love pictures of the SM-1, George... is this thing vaporware, or what?

I wouldn't be so quick to pass judgement without seeing the mount in person first.

To say that it "replaces the handguard" is actually misleading... it "clamps onto the barrel in the spot that the handguard usually occupies" is a better description. ;)

If the other models are any indication, the mount will CLAMP securely to the barrel, much like an M1A scout scope mount, and will NOT move or shift. It should be just fine for mounting ANY optic, including a scope. These guys make a top-notch product.

They turn an M1 Carbine into a Lunar Module?

:D

I'm being sarcastic of course, but I would love to see what the "HEZI" looked like.

I originally wanted to build a CQB M1 Carbine using a Choate PG stock, UltiMak type scout mount, and underside accessory rail. The UltiMak was the only thing really missing, but I gave up waiting, traded the Carbine, and sold all the aftermarket stuff.

But once Sven gets through with his, at least I get to see what one looks like!

If I get the urge to build another CQB in 30 Carbine, I'll start with an Oly Arms platform ;)
