A friend of a friend is in need of some cash, and has an M1 he's looking to sell for $300.

I know *nothing* about M1's. I looked the rifle over this evening.. there's some surface rust on the muzzle end of the barrel, but otherwise appears in decent condition.

It's a SG model, which indicates it was made by Saginaw Steering Gear. What I find interesting is the serial number. According to online documentation, this falls outside of the SG range. It's 34807XX. Does this sound right?

Edit: There's a Springfield Armory logo stamped into the stock, and SG nearby. The rifle says SG and SAGINAW is above the serial number, under the rear sight.

Thanks,

Steve

It is an excellent price, and the serial number is in the Saginaw range per Ruth (3250020 - 3651519 and 5834619 - 6071188.)

Ok, barring anything out of the ordinary... I'll grab it.

Thanks... I had some other feelers out and the phone calls are just coming in. Everyone I called seems to agree... don't pass it up.

What you refer to as a Springfield Armory logo on the stock, crossed cannons, is actually an Ordnance Department cartouche.
